What’s your name?

Ed Orman

What’s your job description / position?

Lead Game Designer/Associate Producer. I do lots of things, but mostly I concentrate on mission and story design.

How long have you been doing this stuff?

I'm up to 3 years in this whacky merry-go-round we call the games industry.

What stuff have your worked on in the past?

My first notable game with MF was "Enemy Infestation", published by Ripcord Games. I did a lot of game and level design, character dialogue, some concept art, etc.

If you could make any game you wanted, what’d it be?

Now there's a big question. We're debating that one at work right now. For me, it would be an RPG with less combat and greater emphasis on adventure/discovery and world interaction.

What are a few of your favorite games?

Recent: Half-Life, System Shock 2. Past: Doom 2, Myst. Distant Past: Donkey Kong, Crazy Climber, Galaga (man, I feel old).

What do you think will happen to computer games in years to come?

I think they will run amok, killing countless numbers of innocent civilians, until they finally turn on themselves.

What do you usually do outside of work? (Extra-curricular activities?)

I draw, I write, I try to create RPG systems and then store them in my cupboard, never to see the light of day. I collect comics. I play games, mostly PC/Playstation/Nintendo [no offense to Sega, I just haven't gotten around to buying a Dreamcast yet].

What are a few of your favorite films?

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Aliens, Empire Strikes Back, The Matrix

What was the last film you saw?

Romeo Must Die [I was disappointed, but I'm super critical]. The last film I saw that I enjoyed was Pitch Black.

Is there anything worthwhile on TV?

Buffy [slay! slay! slay!], Futurama [is funny], Johnathan Creek [magician/detective], MediaWatch [a great little 15 minute program that gives the media conglomerates hell].

What kind of music do you listen to?

Too many kinds! Soundtracks, musical scores, a lot of heavy stuff, some accapella, some electronica, game music, etc, etc, etc.

What are a few of your favorite musical artists?

Crowded House, Nine Inch Nails, Del Amitri, Moby, Talvin Singh, etc, etc, etc

What are a few of your favorite books?

Lots of Larry Niven [Dream Park in particular], I Robot, Red Mars, Reaper Man, etc, etc . . . there's just too many.

What celebrity would you be interested in meeting?

I don't believe in celebrities.

What’s in your home computer rig?

Nothing too amazing. It's an IBM Aptiva, P3 450 with 64 meg ram, some crappy graphics card and an AWE32. Really should upgrade it sometime soon . . .

What electronic ‘gadget’ do you wish you had?

Real: Vadem Clio PDA [huge writing surface]. Fictional: Some kind of thing that lets me do nifty stuff, yeah, that's right . . .

What type of car do you drive?

A clapped out 1980 Honda Accord (It's Honda-matic!TM, or at least it would be if someone hadn't ripped off the little tag on the back that says so).

What type of car do you wish you drove?

One of those new electric hybrid babies. Quiet and planet-friendly!

What’s your favorite pizza?

Chicken with Barbecue Sauce.

Coke or Pepsi?

Coke at work, Pepsi at home.

Boxers or Briefs?

Briefs [and my sperm-count's fine, thanks for asking].

Thanks Ed!
