GTA IV (PC)
GTA IV (PC)
I was planning on buying this game (for a change). But when I went to look for a copy, my friend told me that the PC version sucks ass, is full of bugs and has been awfully optimized.
True or false? And is the game any good to begin with? Vice City -good or San Andreas -good?

I actually just bought it yesterday and wish I hadn't. I have 2 GB of RAM, an nVidia 8600 GTS, and a dual core 2.8 GHz processor, and the game wouldn't even let me play it on the Medium settings. I play Far Cry 2 and all my other games set on High.
I'm returning it this afternoon.
By the way, having a joystick or controller hooked up causes a spinning screen, so you have to unplug it and restart your pc before you play.

I'd say it's closer to VC maybe. You don't get to work out and shit, and there aren't any gang wars for turf or whatever.
It's a bit more "classic"; you get missions and you work for a bunch of people. The overall game mechanic is quite simple, but it's very well done and polished. Some of the "quests" do ressemble each other, but there are quite a few surprises there and there which make the game more enjoyable as they break the rhythm.
I must admit I'm not finished with it yet. I started playing at the beginning of September I think, and I mostly played like 2-3 hours a week. Maybe that's why I enjoy it, I play casually and slowly. I know one of my friend played throught it in like 3 weeks and at the end he was tired of playing and instead of driving to places he called taxi cabs and speed ran throught everything. I did tell him he was stupid but that's another story.

I attempted to play Bully recently, was graced with intermittent crashing every few minutes. A pity, as I had read encouraging things of it. Be that as it may, reports are far from unanimous. Obviously.
Perhaps your fortune could be more consistent ?
After the eminently functional versions of Vice City and San Andreas, I am left to wonder - how ?
I won't be touching IV. Perhaps Saints Row 2 will satisfy in its stead.

The game is a lot of fun - traditional GTA style - on the consoles, though.
I only know one person who has it for PC and said it was buggy and pissed him off a number of times.
One thing for PC though - maybe someone can make a mod that shuts off the random calls on your goddamn cellphone.
Frequently in the middle of desperately running my ass all over town, or right before a gunfight broke out, I'd have some assweasel calling me to go play darts, hang at the tittie bar, or join them for a moonlight rendezvous at the local swimming hole. Okay, not the rendezvous thing.
It was very annoying.
