you know i just read a very interesting article on the origin of roman names. its been accepted fact that the romans took their naming convention from the etruscans (despite speaking a different language), but the article theorized that many common roman praenomen were not derivations from common latin words but latinized versions of etruscan names. for example, it has long been considered reasonable that the roman praenomen rufius is simply a derivation of the latin word for red, but the article implied that it was actually a variation on the etruscan name rufe. there were many others, it was quite fascinatingCimmerian Nights wrote:Pict, Etruscan and Apache.
