In 1965, two cosmonauts overshot their touchdown site by 1,200 miles and found themselves deep in a forest with hungry wolves. That's when Russian space officials decided to pack a sawed-off shotgun aboard every spacecraft.

Oh that's wicked.

I'd love something like that in .410/.17 or .22 for gophers.

That'd make a great walking firearm.

See a gopher at a reasonably shorter distance, boom. Stun it with the .410 and then finish it with a .17 or a .22 in the middle barrel.

According to one account the only vehicle launched with this weapon
exploded during launch.

There's got to be some kind of rivet gun or something used in ISS
construction that can be used offensively.

I've actually held that kind of shotgun in my hands. Back in the '04 I visited the "city of stars", some sort of an old cosmonaut training center in middle of woods, outside of Moscow. I also saw MIR's double and crawled inside

I felt like an Ivan.

They don't have wolves in space, you dumb jew.
Also, spacecrafts are being routinely bombarded by space junk traveling at supersonic speed. They are much-better made than airplanes, because otherwise, no one would be coming down to Earth alive. ISS or a space shuttle can easily take 00 buckshot.

Do they really need shotguns... Why not just sit inside the spacecraft until they get rescued. No reason to go out and fight some wolves.
