The Fallout Fans: Uncovered!

Post by POOPERSCOOPER »

[ Community -> Editorial ]

Megatron gives a detailed study of the Fallout fans and gets to the bottom of it;

It all started back in the olden days, back when
the internet was a baby. It allowed regular people to act like Mr.
Hotshot who was the best at thinking. Anyway, some other shit happened
and then loads of fans for things got together to discuss the icon of
their fandom onto the thing a lot more directly, making communication a
lot easier for like-minded people who are few and far between Though
either way, a bunch of people get together and shot the shit for a
while. The Fallout gaming franchise has a fanbase, preferring to call
themselves 'Louters', who are considered as some of the most angriest
fans out there. Sometimes when just engaging in regular conversation,
the topic of Fallout (the CRPG) may crop up. In these kind of reality
situations, a Louter will lose his temper and start pulling his shirt
up, frustrated and confused by other people's opinions. After the end
of Fallout 2, the fanbase was split into three pools. Though these
pools would perhaps merge or maybe even seperate sooner than you had
thought. As it turned out all along...Fallout franchise was more
trouble than a bull in a china shop!

Let's skip ahead into recent times with the release of Fallout 3:
Washington D.C as well as several of it's expansion packs. Not to
mention the bare-faced fact of replayability, this game was considered
what the industry call a 'Whopper', it was a smash hit. Everyone was
literally playing it, except the fan base. All along it turned out
Louters just loved the first two games. Forget Fallout: Brotherhood of
Steel and Fallout Tactics. Even the third game didn't count.

This is the main gripe of Louters. They want another game. Some
members of the fan base decided to make their own Fallout inspired
games, such as Killa or Sulik's War. Both became big flops however, the
distant spot on the horizon for what the fans consider a true Fallout
game becoming smaller and smaller until it's nothing.

The true Fallout game which the Louters would like the best is
literally, impossible to me made. Not only would nobody buy it, even
the fans wouldn't buy it! Isn't that weird? Well if you thought that
was weird, you just aren't a hardcore fallout fan. But it's a game. A
computer game for whiz-kids.

So what is the future you might be asking yourself. I believe that
the cycle of Louters will continue, anybody who plays the redneck
simulator will become just like the rest of Louters. Will Fallout 3
fans be happy with Fallout 4? Maybe not. But can they then join up with
the Louters and smash the HQ, perhaps hacking? I don't think so bub.
Listen to me I'll tell you the secret. The big secret is that no matter
how big of a fan you are, it's just like being an old man. Get ahold of
yourself and wake up, smell the roses. There isn't anything worth
fighting for on this god forsaken planet. Perhaps maybe Fallout is the
key? If only I could go back and meet Tim Cain, maybe become project
manager and make my dream version of Fallout 2, fix all the bugs. I
could be the man for the job? But maybe not. Perhaps that blessing is
to be given to a particularly strong fan, one who is whole-heartedly
devoted to the original game. The fans even wrote and printed off a
bible, then passed them out to strangers. Nobody ended up actually
doing it, but if they did who knows what kind of a world we would live
in? Perhaps a better one, I hope. Let's learn from what Fallout has
taught us about free will, ethics and survival and incorporate it into
our daily lives. Maybe snuggle up in the bunker with the Fallout PnP
rulebook and a bag of potato chips, munching on them as you weep.
Nevertheless, how can we forget the famous last words; I don't need any more weapons at the Military Base. The Brotherhood soldiers will back me up. 1

Thanks for reading and I hope you have time to give that golden
disc a few more spins. Don't forget the true roots of Fallout. In the
future, fans must take more action than ever. Internet polls, sending
letters, we must do what we can to protect our hobbies and interests
from the suits and pencil pushers who just want to make a quick buck.
This is the true future of Louters, whether you like it or not.
Godspeed Fallout Fans!

I think that it's pretty clear that unless someone who doesn't fucking suck makes an actually good video game, we'll never..

why not just check The Vault and get the whole scoop - somebody already let all that mess out in the open to air the dirty laundry.

I'm sure there will be a FO3.

I don't know when.

It's not an official title, but c'mon, do you really see BIS never doing another Fallout game? Can anyone here stand up, look me straight in the eyes and say that BIS will never do another Fallout RPG?(1)

pax,
