Usually none. Can't see the point. Drugs are valuable currency, though. They weight nothing and, depending on the store and location, they can be really good merchandise.

Originally I didn't use any drugs, except stimpaks. When I started playing some hardcore games I began using a combo of Psycho, Buffouts and Mentats when entering a tough combat area, or when surprised by a nasty random encounter. Never used Jet much, but my characters usually have a lot of action points to start with. The PBM combo makes a tough character, but of course you frequently get addicted.

Junkie characters work way better in Fallout 2, due to Jet and the wacky effects of its addiction. Junkies are not much fun in the original. Psycho is always a staple, though. I find it necessary for whenever I'm fighting anybody who is even remotely non-wimpy.
