Stuff that NEEDS to be in Fallout 3.

Post by Megatron »

Here are some features I want in Fallout 3.

-A road network, with one or two cars/motorcycle gangs going round

-Mabye one or two towns randomly placed on the map and are randomly picked from a list (like mabye a town full of deathclaws or a town full of casinos that are randomly added to the map)

-Destroyable terrain (like set fire to huts, blow up cars, and when you shoot a wall a bit crumbles away/sprays off)

-Mabye half-way through the story your hand gets blasted off, and you find a cybernetic arm that you can attach weapon to (like on evil dead, when he replaces his severed hand with a chainsaw)

-more hi-tech shit, like NV goggles and whhile your playing and have them equipped, the green goes green. And if you have theraml goggles equipped it goes all blue with heat showing up red.

-More death animations

-more skills and stuff to do, like climb through windows, set more traps, mabye drag off bodys

-you grow hair over time (like a beard, longer hair) and your hair drops out and teeth go rotten if you get radiation poisening. You also can get tatoos and stuff, and mabye have just clothes instead of loads of armour

-Your stats should decide how you look (a really weak guy ist going to be a wide-shouldered, square jawed man is he?)

-a brothel

-if you stay in the wasteland for long periods of time, you start to go insane and fire off randomly, and when you speak to someone you say weird stuff

-you can change you tone of voice in dialouge (but not hear your voice) so you can sound threatening, calm etc.

-mabye you have to eat and drink to stay alive

-people won't fight you if you're wearing power armour and have a minigun, if theyre a drug-dealer with a knife.

-mabye add a bank or something in oen town to keep important items in

-your guns need to be fixed and stuff after a bit of time, and mabye after you use one gun after a certain length of time, that weapon gets exp. (you're more familiar with that individual gun, than say a minigun you just found)

-When you complete the game everyone has a positive reaction to you, and groups of girls follow you round to get your auto-graph (until you kill them)

-more blood (like if you stab someone, loads of blood pours out.)

-mabye a spray-can so you can spray-paint certain stuff.

-have the motion sensor make a sort of 3d map of the area

-dogmeat and harold should be in it

No. As little vehicles as possible please. The world has gone fucked. It's not Mad Max, it's Fallout.
-Mabye one or two towns randomly placed on the map and are randomly picked from a list (like mabye a town full of deathclaws or a town full of casinos that are randomly added to the map)
It would add to the replayability, but it's harder to build the character of such a place when it is randomly placed.
-Destroyable terrain (like set fire to huts, blow up cars, and when you shoot a wall a bit crumbles away/sprays off)
Good. Like In Jagged Alliance. The last feature (walls crumbling apart) is too resource intensive though. That's a no-go idea.
-Mabye half-way through the story your hand gets blasted off, and you find a cybernetic arm that you can attach weapon to (like on evil dead, when he replaces his severed hand with a chainsaw)
Effectively fucking up the classless SPECIAL system? no thank you. Perhaps if it was a (perhaps severly penaltized) option. Like the FO1 BOS implants.
-more hi-tech shit, like NV goggles and whhile your playing and have them equipped, the green goes green. And if you have theraml goggles equipped it goes all blue with heat showing up red.
No fuckin gway. Only retro-tech. NV goggles don't fit in. Why do you think T51-B power armor has headlights? Certainly not because NV technology doesn't exist in the FO universe?
-More death animations
Not at the expense of other, more important content.

-more skills and stuff to do, like climb through windows, set more traps, mabye drag off bodys
This is good.Kind of vague though.
-you grow hair over time (like a beard, longer hair) and your hair drops out and teeth go rotten if you get radiation poisening. You also can get tatoos and stuff, and mabye have just clothes instead of loads of armour
WTF?
-Your stats should decide how you look (a really weak guy ist going to be a wide-shouldered, square jawed man is he?)
Might be a good idea, like in Jagged Alliance 2
-a brothel
Arcanum, anyone?
-if you stay in the wasteland for long periods of time, you start to go insane and fire off randomly, and when you speak to someone you say weird stuff
Should depend on character stats. Probably won't work out though.

-you can change you tone of voice in dialouge (but not hear your voice) so you can sound threatening, calm etc.
The dialogue itself kind of indicates the tone your using. The option followed by [menacing] should suffice

-mabye you have to eat and drink to stay alive
Not going to work. It's been tried and it's hard to implement correctly.

-people won't fight you if you're wearing power armour and have a minigun, if theyre a drug-dealer with a knife.
Unless it suits their personalty to do so, which Fallout is all about
-mabye add a bank or something in oen town to keep important items in
Already there in Fallout as far as I know
-your guns need to be fixed and stuff after a bit of time, and mabye after you use one gun after a certain length of time, that weapon gets exp. (you're more familiar with that individual gun, than say a minigun you just found)
Nice idea. Would add to the wasteland feel of Fallout. Then again it might ruin some gameplay mechanics

-When you complete the game everyone has a positive reaction to you, and groups of girls follow you round to get your auto-graph (until you kill them)
Everyone except for the people you pissed off? It should have SOME effect on the game but not to this extent. After all, you finished the game.

-more blood (like if you stab someone, loads of blood pours out.)
So it turns into horror-comedy like Evil Dead? No thank you. I love Evil Dead but it doesn't fit Fallout.

-mabye a spray-can so you can spray-paint certain stuff.
You've been playing too much Half-Life.

-have the motion sensor make a sort of 3d map of the area
Horrible idea. I remember the 3d map in Jedi Knight. It wasn't very friendly. Besides, motion sensors show motion. The fact that it shows walls is already quite a plus.
-dogmeat and harold should be in it
Unless they, by all logic, should be dead. Which is probable.
Harold might technically be alive, being a ghoul. But Dogmeat is surely dead if it's placed after Fallout 2. Perhaps Dogmeat's offspring dipped in the vats or some kinky creature like that, but Dogmeat itself? no.

More destroyed towns and bases - a lot of waste dumpes. Hordes of muties and such stuff. And of course, some well-known persons from last game. And it will be good to make skills more useful than it was in previous games... Trap or gaming skills - total bullshit.

And Pyro, this stuff is good, but don't you think it is too difficult - food for example. It annoys to feed your hero every day.

But by fallout 2, theyre was a car, plsu verti-birds. I think fallout 3 will be 80 years after so by now I'd have thought smitty would have been busy. People would have seen the vault dwellers car anyway, and probably decided to try and fix one up on their own.

It would add to the replayability, but it's harder to build the character of such a place when it is randomly placed.
I meant about 6 set locations and the towns are randomly placed in a location. Besides, how's it hard to build charecter of a place if it's random? If the town has been made already, then placed down about half-way through the game I think it would be good.
Good. Like In Jagged Alliance. The last feature (walls crumbling apart) is too resource intensive though. That's a no-go idea.
By wall's crumbling I meant if you shootsomeone and it misses, the bullet his the wall and come plaster flies off (but doesn't make a hole). But mabye some towns could have destroyable walls (like mabye a bank, or a slave camp)
Effectively fucking up the classless SPECIAL system? no thank you. Perhaps if it was a (perhaps severly penaltized) option. Like the FO1 BOS implants.
How would it fuck it up? Like mabye if you did a certain action, like saved a special BOS paladin and you sacrifice you hand, he takes you to his base and replaces it with a synthetic hand, but later on you could add extra stuff to it, like mabye a meat-pulveriser or a hand-cannon.

No fuckin gway. Only retro-tech. NV goggles don't fit in. Why do you think T51-B power armor has headlights? Certainly not because NV technology doesn't exist in the FO universe?
ok

Not at the expense of other, more important content.
Yes, but I think instead of blowing somoenes head off and their sides explodes, I think their head should explode

This is good.Kind of vague though.
Well thief type stuff, mabye hide yourself...use your imagination

WTF?
In real life if you don't shave or cut your hair is grows long. mabye after a year or something, you get stubble and your hair grows long. This would be a problem though as you'd need a lot of different sprites (If it's in 2d)

Arcanum, anyone?
I don't have arcanum, I think we were just one-step behind with new reno and the porn set and whore-house.

Should depend on character stats. Probably won't work out though.
I don't see why not. Should depend on endurance. If you go insane, you won't be able to see some items, while you hallucinate about other stuff and oyu keep losing your items, or forget to load your gun.

The dialogue itself kind of indicates the tone your using. The option followed by [menacing] should suffice
I suppose

Not going to work. It's been tried and it's hard to implement correctly.
well it would finally be useful for those water-flasks and stuff. And why bother pay 10$ for a drink if it doesnt do anything?

Already there in Fallout as far as I know
Your car...yes....but I prefer to mabye keep it on a world-wide bank and you can mabye save money and get intrest, and your items don't weather or anything.
Nice idea. Would add to the wasteland feel of Fallout. Then again it might ruin some gameplay mechanics
What mechanics? If you keep using a gun, you get used to it...might even name it. Mabye you can also pick up say...the sheriffs pistol and it's got pearl handles and made out of titanium...while other revolvers don't.

Everyone except for the people you pissed off? It should have SOME effect on the game but not to this extent. After all, you finished the game.
yeah, it would get a bit annoying after a bit. But I liked it how vault city liked you, pity no-one else did when you complete it.
So it turns into horror-comedy like Evil Dead? No thank you. I love Evil Dead but it doesn't fit Fallout.
I agree, but if you stab someone, they bleed more than say if you stabbed them with a hypodermic. It also could be a measure for damage.
You've been playing too much Half-Life.
I meant you hold the mouse-pointer down and some dark reddish paint sprays out. You can use it to make a mark in a maze, remind yourself who's in the building or just graffiti.

Horrible idea. I remember the 3d map in Jedi Knight. It wasn't very friendly. Besides, motion sensors show motion. The fact that it shows walls is already quite a plus.
Mabye not the motion sensor then, but it could work. Just because something doesn't work in one game doesn't mean it will not work in another.

Unless they, by all logic, should be dead. Which is probable.
Harold might technically be alive, being a ghoul. But Dogmeat is surely dead if it's placed after Fallout 2. Perhaps Dogmeat's offspring dipped in the vats or some kinky creature like that, but Dogmeat itself? no.
last time I looked, dog's dont live 80 years plus. Dogmeat will live forever. He is part of fallout.

I like the idea of some roads surviving, especially near cities. They would become trade and raiding routes by default, especially interstate highways. As time goes on, more and more old tech would be recovered, especially in larger cities and BoS stations. There would still be plenty of low-tech outlying areas. The idea of a few encounters involving vehicles would not be too anti-canon. Raiders with a dune buggy could be an unholy terror to a low-tech area(quest, anyone?). Perhaps clobbering a raider and stealing his car/bike/buggy/whatever is how you get your first vehicle. You should be able to make a living as a courier with an actual vehicle; as well as doing caravan escort duty with it.

I like the cybernetics idea, if it doesn't make the game cyberpunk. You would need an Autodoc and the cybernetic implants themselves, perhaps you get them by clearing an old secret installation/medlab somewhere.

Retrofuture night vision could be done with active infrared. That particular technology dates to WWII. You shine an infrared light, it is converted to visible light by a lens in your scope or PA visor. It boils down to using a spotlight that only you can see. Of course, if your enemies have the special lenses, you will be holding up a "Shoot me!" sign.
More info: http://seussbeta.tripod.com/imaging.html. Scroll to Near-Infrared Imaging.
http://www.achtungpanzer.com/ir.htm, scroll down for infantry details.

I like the idea of being able to alter your tone and demeanor in dialogue. Perhaps Diplomatic, Blunt, and Threatening. NPC's would respect one tone over another. For example, a peasant might respond poorly to Diplomatic speech, he would think that you are talking down to him. A raider might not respect any tone other than threatening.

I like the idea of being able to do more physical stuff such as climbing fences, carrying/placing/climbing a ladder, and breaking and climbing through windows.

hmmm... weapon familiarity and customization...hmmm...
Perhaps a Weapon Familiarity perk: +20% to hit, +5% to critical chance,
+5 damage with one weapon.
"This is Betsy, my super cattle prod. She's got gold-plated electrodes. I suggest that you move along now."
There should be more stuff that you can have done to equipment. Scopes, extended magazines, gold-plated electrical connections, custom fitting it to your body, precious metal inlay(increases resale value), etc.
I'm not insane, I'm just misunderstood. Unless I misunderstood the meaning of "insane".

The problem with most cars is that they're oil-based. There is no oil left.
I suppose a few fusion-based cars might be repaired. But they should be rare and the gangs should fight OVER the cars rather than WITH the cars.

With wall crumbling you mean what every FPS has in particle effects when your bullet hits a particular surface? That might be nice.

As for cybernetic implants. SPECIAL is based on the 7 stats as well as skills. Naturally, your doctor skill or repair skill would be mipaired with a synthetic hand, because you've got effectively one less hand for delicate work. Besides, I don't know about synthetic hands. The implants in FO1 were shady and were never really explained. If anything, that vague nature should remain. Some things are better left unexplained for the sake of credibility.

The XP system for guns is a nice thought, but it brings up balancing issues. Say you get energy weapons later in the game, and you tag that skill. But you've been using that hunting rifle throughout the game. Have you just lost a bunch of skill points on energy weapons? Will that minigun in the end prove more useful than your 'trusty' hunting rifle?

The guy who gives the the hand could explain they were going to be given to every amputee, except it cost to much to produce and only the greatest soldier and most richest people could afford them.

It would work as a normal arm, except it looks like a metal skeleton thing.

I like the idea of running around a town screaming because your arm was blasted off, then you get a cyber-netic arm.

Later you can get up-grades (like talons, electrical finger-tips) as well as total re-placements (chainsaws, gatling guns, sledge-hammers, hooks)

Mabye losing your arm can be optional, like you have to stop an insane mutant from kill the mayor, but he acks of your arm with an axe. the mayor re-pays you by giving you the arm and a lot of money.

What about giving hero a third arm or eye. It can be cool. Or some cybernetic weapons and all that stuff. Oh, and your own mutation - to make you in some powerful monster. Sounds good for me.

I think mabye you could have two arms on a suit of power armour.

Like two hydraulic arms with knives on the end, so you look like a praying mantis.

I thought of two different suits of power armour for fo3:
The mantis suit:Increases your speed, not strength, as well as 1+ to perception and has 2 added melee attacks. About the same armour class as normal power armour.

The Roach suit:Increase strength up to the max and adds one or two points to endurance. Also has an added sentry gun that shoots lasers mounted on your shoulder, as well as having the highest armour-class available. But you move very slow.

I actually posted the modular armor idea on Vault 13 last year.

But getting your arm chopped off forces you to make your character a cripple. Even if the physical abillities aren't impeded, the character is still a cripple and the player has no choice over the course the prsonality and physical attributes of the character, which is one of Fallout's strong points. (Total freedom when designing your character with SPECIAL)

Well you would be a cripple unless you replaced your arm.

Besides, how many other games have your arm being cut off?

Darth vader did ok.

I also want to hear YOUR ideas, like mabye able to swim or something.

I'm not talking about managing, I'm talking about the freedom the player has to get. I don't feel like roleplayling a person with no arm. I feel like setting up a character and going through the game with that character. Losing an arm might be an option but it should not be forced upon you.

As for my ideas...

- Ignore FOT in the plotline
- Get more control over NPC's, but strictly through dialogues (and shortcuts to dialogues), they're still NPC's.
- Make the plot more suitable for NPC's or scratch NPC's. The prison scene from the military base in Fallout 1 was definitely NOT built with NPC's in mind.
- Generic weapon names, no modern day weapons.

No detailed ideas. I've got plenty of detailed plans, but they're not going to be noticed and it's the little freedom the developers have for themselves so it's not like they're going to implement every Joe, his sink and his john.

i like the destroyable stuff, but it should only be destroyable if you miss, and it hits the wall (lol, a glitch-- maybe not?-- in my game lets me shoot doors like they where people-- it doestn do anything though)

i think that that appearence thing could be kinda cool to see... like another tab in/by the karma one that showed like: long scruffy hair, stinky breath, slaver tatoo on forhead. 1 missing ear-- masticator (lol, happend to me)
and only some NPC's would react, you know? likehow some hookers would do specific cat calls if you had kama sutra/sex appeal.

i think the roads would be cool.

i wish that ppl wouldnt start combat, and run away cause im stronger, they should plee for their lives, like i had to!

there should be more unique wepons/armor like in FO1: .223 pistol/T51-b

food is too hard

roads would be cool

more depots/destroyed places, agreed

more death animations-- not at the expence of the game

no fantasy shit, if you mentioned that.

remain retro! and fallout-y

i want a flashlight, that would be cool. it takes 2 small batterys for a lifetime of use!

i think that the gauss weapons should be clunkyer, and require both ammo and microfusion cells to opperate, hell, how do you get a peice of aluminum (not even magnetic, lol) to be shot through electro magnetic fields? without power!!! are you mad!? lol

and... uh, remain fallout-y-ness... as stated above!

I agree, so i can tell Ian to get the hell out of my may lest i get pissed a put a bullet in his face. Also, I think that if they accidently shoot me, I should be able to "accidently" shoot them, to death.

Well, I was recently playing Fallout, and I decided to make my character stronger, since i was bored. My character had everything pretty maxed out, and I decided to go kill everyone in the Hub. After I completely massacred someone, I ended my turn. (I wanted to see them TRY and shoot me.) Instead of shooting me, or trying to kill him they fled, as a matter of fact, they even said things while running away. Maybe I can take a screenshot next time. BTW, the police were the ones running away.

they sort of get scared after you've killed loads of people. Like in a random encounter, if you kill all the raiders but one he runs off the screen and you cant kill him.

Roads = possibly (if not buried after 200 years of desert sand movement)

but NO cars on them.

Talking of mad max, did anyone notice that in Mad Max 3 (the one set after the war) the number of cars was less. The film was only 4 years after WW3. FO is 80.... you overestimate how quickly human kind can recover. It took 600 years for humans to come out of the dark ages, and the world was a far less hostile place at the time. Despite the technoalgy still there, still understodd the wasteland would be so harsh that it should to take 400 odd years before things actually start to become civilised again.
