Making Vehicle Sprite

Hi requiem,

I'm sorry if there's an existing post on this topic, but I could'nt find it.

My question is when making a new vehicle sprite, is the process the
same as the weapon sprite tutorial. Also what is the basics(things to know what to do for making the sprite) involved. Also what type of graphics editor would be needed for changing appeareances like new
sides, making the doors open(making actual door outlines).

Is there any tut's on this area available?

Thank's jc577

No there is no tutorial because nobody has done it successfully. It probably won't be possible without the original tools and AFAIK will be an extremely complicated undertaking.

As JJ says you'd need the official sprite editors, the fan made editor spray can't handle the vehicle sprites properly. If you open one up you notice that the preview pic doesn't load. While for a single frame sprite you might be able to get away with working blind and then check your result in game or redviewer for a vehicle there's several hundred frames and if just one was incorrect you'd crash the game.

As for making the new graphics you'd need a 3d modeling program. Probably the easiest way is to make your graphic and then (using a barricade sprite?) make a static breakable just for scenary or just make it a tile.

Thank's Guys,

One other question, would it be possible to take
existing vehicles from the game, say like the
APC and add gun turrets and such to them?

Also are there any simple to use graphic designing programs
that you would be able to make and save as spr. files or
raw. files.

Thank's for the help once again! jc577

Not really, in theory you could make a vehicle weapon like the tank turret but in reality you'd have the same problem as making a vehicle sprite from scratch. I'd just make a new weapon sprite/entity and assign it to your vehicle. It won't show up other than in your hand slot but that's the best you can do.

You need spray to make sprites and it uses raw and act files, only the full version of photoshop (v5 or v6 IIRC) supports them.

Thank's requiem,

Well it was a thought, I have some neat images of various military vehicles that would look good in FOT. Oh well!

Thank's again jc577

Hey requiem,

I was wondering something do you know what
programming language FOT's uses?

The reason I ask is with all the brilliant and creative
talent here at DaC. I think that we could put together a sprite editor. I would be willing to contribute finacially to the project. Since I don't
have any schooling for language programming.

I wonder could this possibly be a solution? Could
you imagine the new avenues that we could take
with the Fallout saga's. I think it would be worth
the time and money involved!!!!!
  :joy:

Well here's to hoping anyway!

As long as it would take to essentially rewrite FO:T from the ground up, I'd say it'd probably just be easier to wait till FO3 comes out and mod that instead.

Chances are pretty good that Bethesda will release a pretty comprehensive set of modding tools. You'll likely get a mod out faster if you wait for FO3 to come out than you would trying to do what you're planning.

Thank's Guys,

I get these crazy ideas every so often, and I
start thinking about them, and the possibilities that
could come about from them.

By the way is there any latest word or news on when FO3 is to come out?
