Quentin Tarantino: does he suck?

Kill Bill vol 2 was disappointing, though it wasn't a bad film. It didn't have much substance to it though. Kill Bill 1 was fun for the gore, though I was disappointed we got the censored version in the western world (no doubt so that the special edition DVD can rake in more cash).

Reservoir Dogs was awesome the first time I saw it, but I think it was a product of its time, for the violence and stuff is pretty much acceptable now.

Pulp Fiction had some good one liners.

Jackie Brown... I'm indifferent on. I can acknowledge it's well made.

I do keep an eye on any Quentin Tarantino film because no matter what else, he's good at mixing music with films and making them appear stylish.

I thought the way there was lots of colour and stuff in Kill Bill volume 1 was really good, the way there were lots of shifts of camera angles and stuff and sometimes it was a silhouette, sometimes anime, sometimes black and white...

We had this topic already, Kreegle started it.

Does that mean you want to close down DAC, teatime? Why? There's still people posting here, you know.

Is starting a topic about Tarantino a secret sign for the imminent closing of DAC? Someone should have told me earlier :(

On the topic of Tarantino - I am entirely ambivalent to all things Tarantino. But his movies suck. :drunk:

I voted "He was good when he started out, but he's getting worse".

I really digged Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction... Jackie Brown was ok, nothing special though. Since then, well, I didn't like Kill Bill. It's pretty and all that but it's empty, shallow, whatever. Yeah. It's my opinion and shit. They, like, equal you know.

On the contrary, I think Tarantino is getting better as time goes by. Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction were fun, but fluffy and somewhat labored. Both volumes of Kill Bill were entertaining, energetic, and stylish. There's just obviously more passion put into the Kill Bill movies than his earlier stuff - you can tell he's having fun. I haven't seen Jackie Brown. I don't think Tarantino is brilliant by any means, but he knows how to satisfy an audience.

To each his own, though.

Jackie Brown was pretty great, actually, and probably the best straight-up crime movie I've seen, although you can see that Quentin was losing his edge for dialogue in it. Aside from the bits lifted from the Elmore Leonard's book Rum Punch (which it's based off of), there's nothing as interesting or as funny as Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs. Kill Bill is where Quint really lost it and started taking himself seriously.

I think Kill Bill is where Tarantino started taking his story seriously. It has a sense of direction and purpose, while his other movies are just aimless jawboning. Look at True Romance, which QT wrote - it has a more coherent story than Pulp Fiction, and I think it's a more entertaining movie because of that.

Right. We know what you're gonna say when it comes to Tarantino so you might stop posting just now.

Haha!

You're still saying the same thing and you take yourself seriously each time.

I liked Res. Dogs, Pulp Fiction, his character on From Dusk Till Dawn, and his little sketch on Four Rooms...Everything else is just garbage.

I like it when he's sort of involved in movies just a bit, like true romance, natural born killers and dusk till dawn. I think most of his movies are pretty average and vary to much in quality to be consistantly good.
