With any fermenting, it is important that you keep everything hygenic as possible.

I still think beer is a good choice, because of the help available for that one and I know decent results can be obtained without much difficulty.

I think you should settle it with a knife fight in the streets of São Paulo. John Matrix can be the referee.

It's a shame you can't use the patches and try the mods, they are making some big changes to it with them. Perhaps there is some way to get them to work, or a "special" patch that is made to work with your version?

Just making sure. I wouldn't want your system to get raped by something after you spend ages trying to get the game working. :D

For Fallout, perhaps a clean start and carefully going through the instruction with the newly gained knowledge might work? Delete it all and start at step one.

General tips: To cut back a lot of security problems and spyware: Get Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy . Both are free and easy to use. Change your browser to Firefox if you haven't already. Also free. Run a firewall and get some anti-virus software, if you haven't got one, you should get one...

To make sure you can always see a file's extension: Open a folder --> choose the "tools" menu at the top --> folder options --> choose the view tab --> un tick the box that says "hide extensions for known file types" --> choose apply. That should do it. There are some other optio...

It's not a problem. The renaming of the "___" file was where you got stuck. All you'd need to do is make sure that the file extensions are always shown and you can rename the file to any type you want in the same way you change the file name normally. I hope it is working for you now, have...

I had a read through the guide and as far as I can see it doesn't tell you to rename a text file to an exe. It tells you to rename it to a "cfg" file. Create a text file in c:\games\fallout1 or c:\games\fallout2 called fallout. cfg or fallout2. cfg It does tell you to copy a file that shou...

Well, "d00d", have you considered that your PC or discs are at fault, if you are not screwing it up yourself? Does the disc work for anyone else? You might just have bad luck and a fault has occurred. I have a working copy by running the setup.exe in compatibility mode. That was the easies...

Did you try any harder than that? You could try the Insane AI. Team games? Outnumbering you? Combinations of races? There's still plenty to do by that point. The AI booster you metioned is beta, but does seem to be going well. If they ever get it to a more finished state, I'll probably try it. Homew...

If you look on the disc, you should see some set up .exes. Just set them to compatibility mode for win95 and fire away. Select the huge installation too. Worked on more than one XP set up for me.

If you haven't installed in this way, then you are on your own. You may as well try it.

The campaign wasn't so good, but the skirmish is fun if you play it online. The AI can be decent too.

I liked DoW, it was not bad, though you are right it has more potential than was realized. Have you tried any of the mods out?

I'm hoping the expansion will fix some of the issues. If it doesn't, then the sequel I am sure they are planning might do it. DoW seems to have been a surprise hit for them.

If you gave John Matrix that test he'd leap up from the desk and tear the top of your skull off and jam the rolled-up paper into your brain like a giant drinking straw. He'd then parachute into Iraq and take out all the terrorists, showing the navy seal swell guy how a real man does it.
