F.E.V. Contagious?

Discuss the game that started it all, and its sequel. Technical questions and issues go into the Fallout Technical Support forum, not here.

Silly rabbits--FEV IS NOT AIRBORNE. It's right there in the dialog with ZAX. The Enclave's verison of FEV may have been airborne, but they modified the hell out of FEV. Therefore, things like radscorpions, pigrats, etc. are not caused by FEV. It's simple radiation that made the various critters giant. MCA is here, as in so many things in the FOB, full of crap.

wrap = protein coat.

If the protein coat gets destroyed, then the virus RNA is fucked. No altering about it. It won't replicate because it can't get access to cells without the protein coat.

wow, a whole page got deleted.

Obviously, the enclave found a way to make FEV airborne. Either that or they administered it at a very close range. ??It is doubtful that they could make a airborne strain, seeing as they'd need to genetically engineer it somehow.

Yeah, the ENCLAVE made it airborne, but West Tek didn't. And given that the various wasteland critters existed LONG before the Enclave got any FEV and that a release of the Enclave's FEV would have, y'know, killed everyone, we can only assume that radscopions and such are purely radiation-created creatures.

perhaps someone went around to everyone and gave them a little FEV injection but some got one twice.

You're right. Though irradiation could affect the RNA/DNA directly, though it's more likely that an infected cell undergoes mution, and from then on manufactures a new strain of the virus.

yes, its where the DNA/RNA is housed.

I thought the DNA was housed in the brain, because if you dont have a brain you dont have dna right?

We *ARE* talking about individual cells, right?

The nucleus is technically the "brain" of the cell, because it controls all of the cell's functions.

no, the brain. The human brain! Think of any animal that has a brain right. It has dna. A rock doesnt have dna does it? does a tree have dna? does a bee have dna? no, no brain you see.

So perhaps fev only afffects things with a brain because they have dna. I will have to look into this.

a single cell has DNA, but no brain, so brush up on your biology before posting here.

no, I think you're mistaken. A single cell might contain DNA. But only the cells in the brain. Because these brain cells tell what the rest of the body to be, like bone or meat. That's why rocks don't have rights, they dont have a brain.

No, all cells do have DNA in their nucleui. How do you think Teh CSI can find their killers with a strand of hair?

Look, I may not know much about Biology. Or Physics. Or Chemistry. Or P.E. But I know this. The only thing that you can be certain of is that nothing is ever certain.

But I'm certain you're wrong. Brain cells carry DNA to other parts of the body like the heart pumps oxygen to the lungs! It's just a fact of life, either deal with it or don't. Or deal with it.
