it seems that some one decided to leak pretty much the entire source code to the game and valve is pissed.

good news for the modders? they have a few months to fuck with the code and learn it so they can make some good mods when the game ships, unless they're all like counter-strike...

It's mostly gonna be used to create hacks and shit, but you can pretty much guarantee HL2 won't be released for another year. Funny how all the fanboys were praising Valve for announcing the game so close to the release date and they end up just like every other over hyped piece of crap.

I'm starting to think Valve deliberately leaked the source code just so they can hype the fuck out of an obviously unfinished product for as long as possible. I smell another Daikatana.

There will always be hacks for any popular game.

I wish that i could have HL2. The only way that I would ever play it would be at someone else's house who has a good computer.

apparently the game is really scalable and will run on almost any system, at different levels of detail though.

I saw some of the weapon descriptions leaked in the code before they started pulling it down from major forums (such as the steampowered.com forums) and there was one curiously called a "Brick Bat." What this "Brick Bat" does is still speculation. A friend of mine made a possible conceptual drawing of the "Brick Bat."

Is it really how that goes? I mean what if they never found out their shit leaked? Why the fuck should it take a year longer... They got their stupid steam to counter all kindsa modifications, wallhacks etc.

I say Valve just make it Single Player only and they'll have no worries about hacks. Then release multiplayer later in a patch. Online FPS multiplayer has gone down significantly in the fun-factor in the past few years...

Its not how it goes. No it won't take a year longer. When has a developer A) ever given a drop dead date 6 months in advanced? B) When has a developer ever delivered ON a date that said they would? This isn't a surprise, and most media and industry people didn't really believe it either. Not because of Valve, but because there is no precedent for a developer pulling that off.

To be that confident your game is coming out on THAT date is being pretty telling. They easily could have had 80% of the game done and merely needed to polish the art and balance and bug test, and just found the balance/bug portion took a little longer. Point is, you don't go from "we're shipping on the 30th for sure!" to "um, we don't know now when and it could be another year". :)

Cheers

toee came early D:

Well far cry, max payne 2 and silent storm come out this month, doom 3, call of duty, deus ex 2 I think is coming out at christmas and stalker and bloodlines before summer. Probably some other games I forgot, but I'm glad half-life 2 is going to be delayed, there's too many games released at once.

I'm not bothered about multi-player either, mostly because of my 56k super-speed connection, but when I actually play it I only like playing with people I know? I prefer bot-matches to public servers though, more scalability and options or something. But ai is still pretty dumb, but most people are too? OH WHAT A HORRIBLE TERRIFIC NIGHTMARE!

ToEE was originally slated for early summer and was delayed to September.

Also, Silent Storm's non-Russian release was delayed to Q1 2004.

Steam source code's been leaked/stolen too, so it won't counter autoaims, wallhacks or any other crap for too long.
