Compare and Contrast
Compare and Contrast
Now you can easily compare the "VISUAL" (not gameplay) aspects of both games
Which one do you like better, and why?

HL2 has superior lighting effects when comparing the 2 pics.
Doom's charactor models look nice and "bump-mappy," but the HL2 models look better because of the lighting.
Also, Doom/id has always been geared a little more towards the arcade feel, so the doom pic reminds me of quake. The HL2 pic looks like it's out of a movie, the are really striving for realism, they have created a realistic world with their engine.
Plus... doom hasn't released nearly as much as HL2 has, so to compare them now is a little dificult.
(doom's textures look like they are from MGS2... but not "bump-mappy" enough. bump maps are great.)
Plus it is a lot easier to distinguish individual polygons/faces in the doom pic, on the HL2 pic they are much more blended.. but less shiny

I live in Mesquite, so I can probably get a signed copy of Doom III when it comes out. I live about 5 miles from id headquarters. If you're polite and patient you can usually get an id game signed.
But I'm in favor Half-Life 2. I would trade a signed copy of Doom III, if I could, for one of Half-Life 2.

Doom 3 graphics look very plastic-y.
When I saw the HL2 screenshot, it was so large that I couldn't seen the Combine soldiers and I honestly thought it was a real picture. The lighting in that is damn good.
Doom 3 has good graphics, don't get me wrong, but Half-Life 2 (in my opinion) will probably be more revolutionary as far as graphics goes (due to the fact that HL2 is going to be ultra mod-friendly).

AHEM, you guys fucking forgot someone. (I shwear, quit leaving out S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)
Don't fucking tell me these graphics are worse than HL2 or Doom 3, because if you do, I'll kill you.

It is your kind that usually takes the route of the Dodo, stupid nonnyheads. As I recall, Half-Life wasn't such a hugely advertised game at E3. The community was small, but when it came out, it was an instant hit. That's a sleeper hit. No one expects a lot to come from it because it doesn't have name recognition attached to it. They play it and BAM, No. 1 game in the country.

I'm not so sure about doom... I know it will probably be a great doom style game... but I don't know if they will try and make guns more realistic (drop their arcade feel-- 10 shots with pistol, 2 with shotty, etc...). I know that some mindless doom fans will not like it if it is too survival oriented, but the genereal public will shun it if it is a classic doom run around and blow up monsters (it will make me want to shoot people at school-- :x)

Ahhh Columbine...they treated Doom like it was a top of the line, mass-selling, murder simulator. But it was in fact one old, out teched, but still classic game. You know what's really sad though. All those kids are dead and it didn't really change anything. The world didn't need them. But it's still an injustice that they died.Strapon2 wrote:(it will make me want to shoot people at school-- :x)
