ATI or NVidia ? [/Poll]
I'm Curious...
These days, both companies are pretty much the ones
who decide how good our future visual quality in games
will be...
Both make great cards, and both are responsible for some major screwups...!
ATI released an alpha version of Doom III far too early, and though some of us gamers appreciate that, it certainly didn't get positive responses from id-Software....
NVidia though, deliberatly cheated in the new Futuremark 3D-mark, making the NV-cards receive far more credits than they deserved...
http://www.futuremark.com/companyinfo/3 ... report.pdf
Both sinners, both the reason for our current amazing visual technology, both good...
I'd like to hear more stories about the two, I'd like to hear what you think will happen with NVidia...
If NVidia went down, we'd have a problem, because then there'd be noone to fight ATI, resulting in bad quality-cards...

NVidia aren't exactly humorless!! =D
Remember the humiliatingly loud sounds the NV30 produced?
Well, this video, made by NVidia themselves, shows the good sides of having a rather "loud" graphics card!
http://www.hardwareonline.dk/download.asp?id=907
I don't have a better mirror right now, I'll edit if I find one.
[EDIT]
More ATI news... posted in News section before...
http://www.rage3d.com/articles/atidawning/
When NVidias own demos run faster on ATI cards, things get a bit embarrasing...
[/EDIT]
[MORE EDIT]
Apparently right after the NVidia demo "Dawn" was released,
multiple thoughts raced through the heads of countless geeks and nerds, one of them being: "Gee, I wonder what Dawn would like like *without* her scanty clothes...."
Well, this "geek" downloaded the patch, and I can tell you, she hasn't got anything that surprises me. Well except for that... leaf..!

More Cheating rumors... I'll edit this post when I find an article about it...
It seems ATI "cheated" a long time ago, when Quake was hot, and the card-tester of the time...
The game performed much better, due to the ATI-drivers, but it led people to believe that the ATI cards would perform better on everything!

Right next to the "Turn off PTTM/Axelgreese Trolling" button.where's the "I like rubber duckies" option?
Namely, not there.
Someone please delete his post(s) from here..?
It seems that everytime I post anything, or make a new thread, you're there to screw it up somehow...
I'm pretty tired of you putting things off-topic, or turn them in a negative direction.
It's true, that in the old days (Before 9500 and 9700PRO)Jack_Deth wrote:I used to use ATI but then I switched over to nVidia, there drivers always work, can't say that for ATI.
The drivers for ATI were really bad... But ever since the release
of 9500 it's been going up. The current ones for 9700PRO
have increased the performance of my machine a lot.
When I had my GeForce 2, everything seemed to go even
worse everytime I downloaded new drivers...
But A GF4 owner friend of mine, has told me that they've
managed to improve a lot lately.
Would you still consider buying the GFFX, when:Yeah, but we're not talking about cars.
Anyway, I was into ATI for a couple years, switched to NVidia and I'm pretty happy. By the end of the year I'll probably stick with them and get the Geforce FX.
a. It's performance is lower than 9700PRO and everything above?
b. It's price is about the same as the 9700PRO, and usually higher?
c. It sounds like having an airplane turbine put into your case?
If you know anyone who has one or another, I suggest you ask them...
Do some research before buying a new card. Not that I think you wouldn't already... Just making sure I guess.

I'm for NVidia. It's not really for research or anything, but it's the same reason why I always buy Nokia cell phones and my dad buys Mercedes-Benz cars. I trust the quality and when I'm looking for a new 3D-card I just browse through NVidia's catalogue and read the reviews about their cards. Slave of my own habits, I know.

It's funny as how people want the new NVid cards, because
the old ATI cards stunk...
They DID! They sucked! They were worse than just about anything
else!
But now, the tables have turned, ATI has the upper hand, the better drivers, the more powerful cards, and they officially support Half-Life 2 =D.
On Top of that, their prices are better.

I think it's the "once bitten, twice shy" stigma that's followed ATI for some time. You have to remember that the time of piss-poor drivers wasn't exactly a brief thing, and that they could suddenly go back to crap at the drop of a hat. There's no guarantees, and since they've already alientated a good portion already...
Obsidian:
Now working on Fallout: New Undermountain!
They promise to spend only a year on this title - only a year less than the original Descent to Undermountain!

Yes, Rosh, but right now, NVIDIA is taking a pretty big bite out of the consumer's ass. It's stupid antics like the shit they keep pulling with 3DMark that makes them lose customers. Regardless of past driver issues with ATI, people are eventually going to realise that NVIDIA's product is not only inferior, but a hell of a lot more expensive.

Well the last 4 drivers I've downloaded for my 9700, have all improved my general FPS in about anything I play, so it's safe to say that ATI drivers are more than good enough, they're great.Rosh wrote:I think it's the "once bitten, twice shy" stigma that's followed ATI for some time. I have pretty much always used NVidia... Their cards have never given me problems, and have always given me nice performance... their price is nice too. Now, I have a motherboard with NVidia chipset drivers on it, and it runs great too. So, I seriously doubt I will ever put an ATI card in this machine.
NVidia doesnt have much out worth buying right now, I will admit that the ATI cards are the best out at this moment, but that will change when NVidia releases the 5900 cards and up. Those cards are going to be forced out sooner than planned since the 5800's were so loud and didnt perform any better than ATI's 9700.

The 5900's have already been reviewed. They stink. So much, in fact, that NVIDIA decided to cheat at 3DMark 2003 to fool people into thinking their card was worth a damn.
Even better, ATI is beating NVIDIA at it's own game. everyone knows Dawn, the NVIDIA tech demo of a little fairy type creature. Well, some students at MIT took Dawn and added a wraparound (a sort of graphics emulator) that would let ATI cards render Dawn. The ATI 9xxx boards severely outperformed equivalent NVIDIA cards. Keep in mind, also, that a wraparound, just like any emulator, actually slows down the performance of the hardware.
