CTB or TB in Tactics...

Just curious what the fans here perfer in general. I play almost exclusively in CTB, cos I like setting traps and ambushes. Plus TB seems to make a long game even longer. I did break down and use TB on the KC mission tho, its just too damn nuts in the beggining without it.

it does indeed but I used TB nevertheless. It just feels more Fallouty-for me.

Welcome to the boards.

Cheers,

Traps and ambushes are still playable in TB.

Though in CTB you don't have to micro-manage all 6 squad members all the time, I prefer TB as it allows you more control of the game, when playing in CTB it sometimes feels like I'm more a spectator than a player.

I guess I like CTB cos I've managed to play almost the entire game in CTB (except the beggining of KC), and do almost as well as I could do in TB mode... plus it adds to the stress factor, which I kind of like... a little pressure and extra challenge can add to the fun :)

I have never, i repeat, never played in TB. I love CTB because I enjoy RTS games and CTB makes you think on your feet. If I want TB I'll play Fallout 2

I think that CTB is well suited to the overall feel and style of Fallout Tactics, I've completed it twice using nothing but CTB.

I started playing the new Awaken mod in CTB. But lo and behold, one or two towns in and it was obvious that this was a Turn-Based animal, just like FO1/2!! A quick tweak of the dial and bingo I'm playing Fallout 3, or the closest we're ever likely to see) :D

hehehe, yeah, i tried playing that in CTB, you know its time to change when tribal encounters kill you every time :) lol

I played CTB throughout coz it fits the game, KC is tough on CTB but CTB is better for FOT.

if i want TB, FO1 and 2 are far better.

Mind you, the FO1/2 TB combat engine is a bit limited ... not to say I don't love it, just that I think it's not the main strength of the games. I think that the TB combat of Jagged Alliance 2 is better - more options and freedom. Mind you, JA2 isn't an RPG, although it does have quests and limited character advancement ...

(Prunk wonders if "Jagged" and "Alliance" are bad words in this here forum ...)

I completed the game in TB. This gives me the oppertunity to carefully ponder my actions. Having to control 6 or so at once can not but result in inefficiency, eventually.

ya but CTB allows you to lay down covering fire and close in to destroy your enemy. I just like CTB, makes you think on your feet.

Jagged Alliance is looked on favorably here, I liked it alot and still have yet to complete it

CTB offers different ways to approach combat. I started playing it immediately on getting FOT and haven't turned back since. It takes getting used to and in some situations like Kansas City it requires perfect timing and speed with the mouse. I don't think TB offers that much more precision control but the same mission in TB does not play the same in CTB.

One thing i love about CTB, is the ability to launch simultaneous sneak attacks and really devastate a whole room of baddies in the time it would take to kill one of them in TB.

(crawling all you troops up to a half wall with baddies on the other side, setting them all to aggressive, them standing them all up at the same time... *RaTa-tat-tat!* *splat!*)

I'm planning on playing Tactics again soon (when I've finished JA2 ... for the fifth time) so I may try it TB to start with. I'm always game for new challenges ...

i played the first half of the game completely in turn-based mode, but switched to CTB later in the game when my troops became better at shooting

i think the option to have *both* modes is excellent as there are times when CTB is better than TB (such as taking out dudes with high HP) and vice versa (when you need to make every AP count)

CTB, it's fun to stage a continuous shootout without turns.
