XP and FOT: Can they live in harmony?

Like Tactics? Found a cool mod for another game that reminds you of Fallout? Playing those crappy spin-off console games called "Fallout"? Discuss here.

XP and FOT: Can they live in harmony?

Post by Stealth Rabbit »

I just reinstalled XP because I needed to run certain programs thaty wouldnt run under ME for some reason. I checked all my programs, and thought everything was OK, until FOT crapped out. Does anyone else have problems with XP, or is my computer just so fucked up that its amazing it runs?

No idea personally, just replying so you don't think that you're being ignored if none replies. There was such a case in old DAC the guy started badmouthing us all and I got very irretated.

I don't think many FoT players have XP(Maybe Max-V?). If you don't get lucky, try the BIS Site forums. I'd say about MicroForte but I don't think they're considered responcible any longer. If anything else fails I'd try Section8's thread in the Modding forum(only as a last resort though. I imagine the man doesn't wan't to be bothered with every little detail)

Windows ME... There mere mention of it chills the bones. All the instablility and crashed you loved in 98 but with new buggy features!

I ran FOT v1.27 on XP and never had any problems.

Certain games work at certain times on my computer. My comp is so screwed up, so one time under XP FOT worked, the next time it didn't. I think it's trying to conspire against me. :bad-words:

You think you have it bad? I have to reinstall the drivers for my video card every time I reboot my computer because they decide to spontaneously disappear from time to time. What's really annoying is having to reboot the computer two more times during the installation process...

I use Win XP and it runs FOT with no problems, in fact I have never had it crash once, I can safely say that Win XP is the most stable OS to come out of Microsoft yet.

That's... not good. You might have a virus, virus-like object, or a really f-'d up hard drive. Or a combination.

Or you pissed of the tech-gods. Over and over.

And over.

Btw, sorry for neglecting to mention this:
Are you sure you cover all of FoT reqs? It occasionally crashed on my comp too, and I only have 128 megs of mem. Usually, it did that after playing for consecutive hours and it gave me signs first that the system was low on resources(got tremendously slow). Also there are bugs in the normal version that got fixed in 1.27, and then there is the dreaded missing graphics problem for which there was a huge patch.

If you don't have such problems, you can try exiting the program for a while when it gets slow, shutdown and after a few minutes restart. Or you could buy more ram and a better PC, though I hardly recommend that just for a game.

As a matter of fact, I do meet the requirements, 933mhz PIII, 256mb RAM, 30gb HD, 64mb video card, supports resolutions up to 1280x1024 using 32bit color.

Well, I know it's not a virus as I did a full HD scan the other day. I'll just get around to formatting my hard drive (or rather, my partition, but that's not important) eventually which should get things working again. Hopefully.
