I would start from scratch as far as any moderators go on the new forums. No point in keeping a bunch of people who haven't been around in years as moderators.

The prices on custom XF development and styling jobs have skyrocketed over the last few years so instead of hiring a designer to replicate this DAC theme (which, honestly, is also very outdated), I'd go with one of the fitting available new themes instead. It would look a lot better than reusing any of the nearly 20 year old graphics on the current one. This simple phpBB is also lacking dozens of new features that modern forum software has, so there would be a lot of missing graphics if we tried to reuse the current ones.

The forum software would be the most current there is and would have all the features you'd expect from a modern forum; post ratings, automated media embeds, alerts, push notifications on mobile and so on. It would actually be the improved version of what RPG Codex and Sorcerer's Place are using because we're still on the previous generation of XenForo there whereas DAC could be moved to the latest, modern version.

I don't know if we're thinking about the same thing referring to "style", but overall the forums would feel and look very much the same. It's just some of the button graphics and colours that would be different initially, but the colours would be easy enough to change to match the existing style.
