Tim Cain to stay on at Obsidian Full-time

Post by King of Creation »

[ Person -> Update ] - More info on Person: Tim Cain | More info on Company: Obsidian Entertainment

Confirming every Fallout fanboy's secret dreams, Tim Cain has decided to stay on full-time at Obsidian. Chris Avellone tweeted the following:

My heart grew three sizes today when Tim Cain said yep, it was official - he was going to stay and work with us full-time.

Now hopefully Obsidian will do the next Fallout, using better tech than the Gamebryo/Skyrim hybrid (ugh) and Tim Cain can create the sequel that he's always wanted.

I just posted this to submit news before reading it here. Great news.

Just having them their makes me feel better, doesn't even have to be a Fallout game. He won't make the game better just by being himself but he has the Fallout fan aura of debating to the death that he is right and TB combat will live on forever in his heart.

Here's hoping whatever they're doing with him translates into a cracking game. My take? Screw the Besthapo, they can have Fo and their console FPSs, give us something new, something better. How hard can it be?

Considering I've been comparing every game with choices that's come out since 1998 to the original Fallouts, extremely.

New Vegas and Arcanum are two games off the top of my head that trumps the original Fallout's when it comes to choices....

Rather "ambitious but rubbish" than run-of-the-mill, generic, design-by-commitee, focus group tested console tripe. Oh, and world peace, flying cars and triple-breasted hookers, while we're at it. :drunk:

Regardless, if it's better than "Oblivion w/ guns (but not written by children anymore)" I'll have a field day.

Now hopefully those rumors about Obsidian working on Fallout 4 can be true.

Never played Arcanum. I love New Vegas, but I think the freedom in Fallout 2 is still greater.

Seriously Ret? I've got Arcanum on my GOG account if you want to get it off that. Just shoot me a private message, I actually share my GOG with my buddies all the time so it won't be a problem.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll buy it outright. I only pirate things I'm not sure of or for companies that don't deserve the money.

In this case I would consider it borrowing since you'd be playing it off an account where I've already purchased it, but whatever floats your boat.

Grab it off of GOG and be sure to grab the unofficial patch as well. Also, try the Extra Animations Pack (which I'm actually about to do myself for the first time). :salute:

Be sure to look into the stellar works of Chris Beddoes, also. Some uniformly master class modding acumen, oh yes. :drunk:

Arcanum is more of a sequel to Fallout than all the Fallout games after 2. :chew:

That is true, Toxic. I got the same type of enjoyment from Arcanum as I did from the Fallout games.

I heard Cain was looking at job opportunities in my neck of the woods and I was prepared to buy him a beer or two. Was sad to hear this.
