[ Company -> Update ] - More info on Person: Brian Fargo | More info on Person: Jason D. Anderson | More info on Company: inXile Entertainment

Edit: The absence of Jason Anderson from the press release, as numerous people have mentioned, makes us very suspicious that he is not working on this game, but actually working on Wasteland 2.

Just not on what we had hoped for. DAC originally reported that Brian Fargo had let slip that he and inXile were working on an "underwraps" game for Bethesda. Speculation ran rampant that it might be Wasteland 2, but it turns out that it is something else entirely. The game in question is called Hunted: The Demon's Forge. Here's the story from Gamasutra:

Bethesda Softworks said Monday that it will publish Inxile-developed Hunted: The Demon's Forge, a "third-person co-op fantasy action game" for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

The publishing deals comes shortly after news emerged that Inxile's crime game
Heist was canceled by Codemasters.

Bethesda said the game is powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3, and is a "third-person dungeon crawl with the intensity and action of a modern-day shooter." The player and a partner go up against waves of enemies using ranged and melee weapons. The game will also sport co-op based puzzles.

Inxile was founded in 2002 by Interplay founder Brian Fargo, who worked on games inlcuding
The Bard's Tale, Baldur's Gate and Fallout. Michael "Maxx" Kaufman is directing Hunted. Previously, Kaufman was art director on Kingpin: Life of Crime, Redneck Rampage and Gray Matter's Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Bethesda Softworks president Vlatko Andonov said in a statement, "We believe gamers will be really excited about what these guys have in store for them."

Bethesda, which creates games such as
Fallout 3 and Oblivion internally, is also publishing upcoming games such as Obsidian-developed Fallout: New Vegas, Splash Damage's Brink and Id Software's Rage.

Remember, you heard about the partnership here on DAC first

Thanks for the tip Ausir!

All I can really feel is slight disapproval, most of it stemming from Fargo using Bethesda as the publisher. Its really hard to care about this stuff anymore, especially since most every game franchise I grew up with has been irreversibly damaged in my eyes.

I remember playing gauntlet as a kid. They sent wave after wave of badguys too. L4D wasnt the first or last to do this, and it also wasnt third person. you should really work on adding some insight to your desparaging comments.

If I remember correctly, there was Smash TV too that did the wave after wave thing. Used to love that game, got it again recently on Xbox market.

But since L4D has done it, people are scrambling to copy the formula in first person. You should really work on shielding your teeth for the next time I put my balls in your mouth.

see but thats where youre dumb. back to my intial point, if gauntlet and smash TV did it, it wouldnt really be copying L4D would it?
i mean really, you pretty much said, "they made a video game, way to copy L4D". also again, its 3rd person and not first.

good job on outing yourself with the balls comment, though

Again, dumbass, no one has made shit like Gauntlet for years until Valve did Left 4 Dead, now a lot of companies are trying to imitate that success. Just like how nobody made shitty post-apocalyptic first-person shooters until Bethesda did.

Who cares if it's a Gauntlet or L4D clone. However, Retlaw does have a point. L4D repopularised the genre and as usual, everyone attempts to have their go at milking the cash cow. However, all games are essentially shiny clones of their predecessors so what's the problem?

just off the top of my head, Dantes Inferno was that play style.. it was in development before L4D even dropped, let alone was a smash hit.. i am sure i could find more, but most action games send waves of enemies..
my point once again, Walter, is that its not L4D's formula. its a common gaming formula that has been around since space invaders, so get off of Left 4 Deads nuts. its l;ike calling "indie" bands of today genius for ripping off bands from the 80's.
I also again pioint out your discprepency of calling it first person.

Two similar games in development at the same time. That's never happened before!

Is using my last name by itself supposed to be some kind of insult? Especially considering I typically go by it or variants in my daily life?

So, Dnatskcick, at what point in this conversation was I a fanboy for Left 4 Dead? All I said is it's gathering a lot of imitators.

If this is the level most Fallout 3 fans read at, it's no wonder none of them minded how nonsensical and poorly written it was.

As this silly idea of yours as been shot down, let me direct you to where I talk about my balls in your mouth. You wouldn't be taking this abuse if you didn't come swinging at me out of the gate, kid.

What are you guys talking about? Are you talking about games where you kill endless guys or that you can do it together in co op? Dante Inferno didn't have co op and if you think that the beat em up thing only recently got popular again because of L4d your wrong yo. God of War and those games came out before and stuff and were popular.

nope, just the waves. im not mentioning co-op at all.
a lot of games use/used waves is all i am saying.

Walter, the fanboy-ism comes from you seemingly putting L4D on some kind of pedestal by saying that other companies are trying to emulate them.
