PARPG Tech Demo Released

Post by King of Creation »

<strong>[ Game -> Update ]</strong>

<p>The old FIFE crew is back at it, this time releasing <a href="http://blog.parpg.net/2010/03/parpg-tec ... ilable/">a tech demo</a> of their PARPG game. The game will be a <em>Fallout</em>-inspired post apocalyptic RPG with the following elements:</p>
<ul>
<li>Singleplayer RPG. No plans for multiplayer support. Coop gameplay not a priority.</li>
<li>Post-apocalyptic setting. Story, setting and game mechanics details are yet to be discussed.</li>
<li>Written in Python (2.6x branch). Utilizing the <a href="http://fifengine.de/">FIFE game engine</a>.</li>
<li>Isometric 2d graphics instead of going for full 3d engine complexity.</li>
<li>Open source code and asset licensing.</li>
<li>Non-profit. The game and all tools will be free of charge for everyone.</li>
<li>Open development philosophy. Public development wiki and forums. Anonymous SVN checkout.</li>
<li>Meaningful choices and consequences. Multiple paths to complete quests, including non-violent ways.</li>
<li>Tactical, turnbased combat.</li>
<li>Emphasis on well-written detailed dialogue.</li>
</ul>
<p>Head over to their website and <a href="http://blog.parpg.net/2010/03/parpg-tec ... ble/">grab the demo</a>.</p>

<p>Thanks <strong>mvBarracuda</strong>!</p>
<p><em>Update</em>: Looks like it's not the old FIFE crew after all. From mvBarracuda: "<em>One note though: the project is not FIFE-related besides that it utilizes FIFE as engine. No former FIFE devs are currently involved in PARPG besides me.</em>"</p>

Thanks a bunch for the coverage :-)

One note though: the project is not FIFE-related besides that it utilizes FIFE as engine. No former FIFE devs are currently involved in PARPG besides me.

That is actually really nice. You have come a long way, I just hope you finish it.

Well done.
Do these glasses and my two chins make me look sexy?

Hell yeah, it looks great. Definitely could use some reskinning of the user interface graphics, but it's got some serious potential.

Looking forward to the endgame.
Appearing stupid is sexier than being stupid. Although I hear stoopid was a cut perk in fallout three, but was abandoned when the devs found out it could be simulated by simply playing the game...

Batch update:
I didn't intially post it in here, but we're currently workng to get the project back on the track and we're (slowly) moving towards a 2nd techdemo release.

We'll be mostly focusing on improving the engine at this point as there is too much functionality missing at this point to add new content; especially the content pipeline and tools aren't fleshed out yet.

Anyway, for all still interested in the project:

I'll post another little update at the blog this week, covering our plans and the way towards techdemo 2.

EDIT: And there you go:

And a sneak peek of the new notebook GUI concept:

Yet another update:
PARPG now features a planet site:

Tracking the project progress has never been easier!
