New Monitor

Post by jetbaby »

Ladies and gentlemen of the DACK. I am in need of a new monitor. I am tired of boxy old CRTs and I am looking into a widescreen LCD. Any ideas, suggestions, etc?

Samsung makes good LCDs for a good price.
If you want best quality and highest price go for EIZO.

In any case be sure to get an LCD with DVI.

Samsung is overpriced.

I bought a widescreen 24" full HD ASUS monitor. Works fine, doesn't cost much, decent specs.

The only scary thing about a large widescreen LCD is that you get used to it very quickly, and that all 4:3 screens look inadequate in comparison.

Yeah that's my issue. I was just house sitting, borrowed my friend's Acer 22" widescreen because it's lighter than this beast. After two weeks with that thing I can't deal with this box shaped demonic monstrosity. I can't go back.

Edit. "this beast" refers to my current ... 17ish inch CRT, probably dating back to the early 2000's. If not earlier. I'm scared to search stickers on this thing

I use an Acer H233H 23" widescreen. I saw a display with it, a Samsung and an LG lined up next to each other. My determination was the Samsung was the most expensive and had the worst picture, and the LG had a slightly better picture, but not $80 better. I haven't had any problems with the Acer and it looks great - playing games I already owned on it was almost like having a brand new game because I noticed a lot more details.

I got this to replace my old 19" CRT. Although the H223H is listed as being 17" inches high, it has two inches more vertical screen space than my old monitor.

Place an acid under your tounge and one under your eyelid - it should convert your crt into 6D viewing screen.

Get a Dell 24" widescreen. They use the primo IPS panels, not the shit Twisted Nematic panels that most other companies use.

I don't know, I think you could probably do well with just about any LCD panel as long as you stick with the big names. Dell supposedly has good screens but I remeber in the past lots of people complainging about backlight problems.

5 months in a with a benq projector(trust me...you don't want to get used to gaming a projector...it ruins you) and so far no issues. No clue about monitor reliability though
