Edit: NOT Fallout Movie, but "The Fallout"

Post by King of Creation »

[ Film & TV -> Update ] - More info on Film & TV: Fallout: The Movie

In the most exciting day for real Fallout news in years, the long rumored Fallout movie is set to begin filming in February! From Dark Horizons:

Xavier Gens ("Hitman," "Frontiere(s)") is set to direct a film version of the popular video game series "Fallout" reports <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR111801 ...

The story is set in a New York City apartment building that was converted to a fallout shelter in a post-apocalyptic world.

Ross Dinerstein (“Powder Blue”), Darren Welch (“The Bang Bang Club”) and Tony Krantz (“Mulholland Drive”) are producing. Filming kicks off in February somewhere in Eastern Europe.

If Interplay actually wins its lawsuit against Bethesda and regains the rights to Fallout, what happens to this film?

Edit: This may or may not actually be related to our beloved Fallout franchise. Upon reading the Variety article closer, you'll note it makes no mention of the videogame franchise and, in fact, calls the film The Fallout, rather than just Fallout. I've sent a few emails to see if we can sort it out.

EDIT 2: Turns out, it's not really a movie based on Fallout at all, but a movie stealing the name and general premise. From Pete Hines:

ZeniMax owns all of the intellectual property rights to Fallout and we have not licensed those rights to anyone for the purposes of a movie.

Here is the real post from Variety:

“Hitman” helmer Xavier Gens has signed on to direct futuristic thriller “The Fallout,” which takes place in a post-apocalyptic world set around a New York apartment building-turned-shelter.

Ross Dinerstein (“Powder Blue”), Darren Welch (“The Bang Bang Club”) and Tony Krantz (“Mulholland Drive”) are producing.

Karl Mueller and Eron Sheean are co-writers and co-producers.

Content Film is handling worldwide rights on the project, which begins production in Eastern Europe in February.

So, although not a Fallout game movie, we'll still probably be following the film on DAC because of its post-apocalyptic nature.

Spotted @ Dark Horizons
