Borderlands DLC Announced

Post by King of Creation »

[ Game -> Update ] - More info on Game: Borderlands

The game doesn't even hit stores until the 20th, but in pure marketing-whore style, developer Gearbox has already announced a DLC for Borderlands. And it has zombies.

2K Games announced today that the first piece of downloadable content for Borderlands, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, is planned for release later this year for all available platforms for $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points). The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is in development at Gearbox Software and is the first in a series of downloadable expansions that will enhance the Borderlands mayhem in fun and exciting ways.

Tasked with keeping the workers of Jakobs Cove alive, Dr. Ned (who is not related to Dr. Zed from Fyrestone) does his job a little too well, creating zombies and other abominations that now run rampant in this region. Players will have to work alongside Dr. Ned as they embark on a quest to cure the inhabitants of Jakobs Cove in this full-fledged expansion filled with new enemies, new quests and rare loot drops.

Featuring extensive co-op integration that seamlessly blends the single-player and multiplayer experiences, Borderlands allows players to freely join or leave each other’s games at any time for collaborative mayhem or the freedom to choose to play in full single-player mode to experience the world on their own. Borderlands also includes a groundbreaking weapon generation system that offers a near infinite variety of weapons to the player. Borderlands combines these features with addictive non-stop action to form a breakthrough experience that challenges the conventions of modern shooters and RPGs.

This kind of practice is becoming trendier and trendier. It's a huge cop out to release something as a DLC when your game isn't even in stores yet. It clearly shows that you meant to include it in the main game, but couldn't get around to it.

Spotted @ Voodoo Extreme

That's horse shit. Finishing one of these little DLCs takes them, what like a couple of weeks of hard work? They could have included it in the game if they had wanted to, or fuck, just release it for free if you couldn't include it in the original game. Back in the day, these fuckers used to be called patches.
Just think of all the shit that they actually got people to pay for in Oblivion. Horse armor? Couldn't get round to finishing that? My ass. To be honest, I sort of admire them. They've got the clientel gawking at them like hungry birds, they feed them shit and charge them for it.

Hello corporatization. It's the inevitable consequence of having rich investors who were never involved in the game industry other than buying a company or two putting in a massive marketing department. Hell, most marketing departments in major companies dictate what goes into a game nowadays.

Bah. You're putting the cart before the horse. Corporations merely deliver what consumers want.

Apparently, there's no limit to how deep a rectum this guy has.

I'm so glad I'm a pc owner, Valve would never do this to us; and the only reason they charge for DLC on the 360 is because Microsoft makes them.

I think the only DLC I bought for a game was The Pitt for FO3 and that turned out to be shit so I doublt I will buy DLC for anything else unless its a really good game or a good dlc.

Empire: Total War "DLC" must be the most outrageous shit so far, I believe. They actually sell so called downloadable content that isn't actually new content at all, it only unlocks something already included in your original game - which you've already once paid for. So *true* marketing geniuses gimp the original release and then sell the real game bit by bit to the fans afterwards.

thats fuckin ridiculous... every time I hear about these scams I lose a bit more respect for "gamers". I cant blame the companies really. They created something and they want the most out of it. These braindead nimrods deserve to be broke and hopeless if they pay real money for useless digital information.

I bought one thing from xbox live- it was a shooter game for two players. i bought 'cause a friend was over and it was five bucks and we wanted to play something. 20 minutes later i was massively regretting paying for the shit and the game was in the top ten of downloadable games and it was boring as hell.

We ended up playing Turtles in Time on SNES.

They actually have a 3D-but-still-scrolling remake of that on the XBAWKS marketplace. Not terribly done, either.

I saw that. It looks aiight.

This "Borderlands" looks like absolute shit, by the way. The main characters look like news anchors.

The game is set in the borderland between zombie island and CNN.

A lot of that happens on consoles too, most of the content is already on the disk.

Valve is one of the last bastions of honest gaming. Don't turn me into a complete cynic.

They'll be here when they're done. Don't rush good games. They've never let us down before, and rushed products always end up being incredibly buggy and broken.
