Operation Anchorage DLC Info

Post by King of Creation »

[ Game -> Update ] - More info on Game: Fallout 3

The new Fallout 3 DLC that's coming out looks a bit too scifi and not Fallout, but hey, whatever. Check out some info from IGN:

The liberation of Alaska was hinted at a lot during Fallout 3. What can we expect out of that simulated battle?

Anchorage the player will find themselves able to re-live the famous
liberation of Anchorage from Fallout lore -- inside a simulation
similar to one found along the main quest of Fallout 3. Once the player
finds their way into the simulation, they'll be stripped of their
resources and have to survive within the rules set up by the
simulation's creators.

The Chinese red army is everywhere, and the player will first
have to secure the surrounding mountain side and then fight their way
into the Chinese base. The player will have to use a lot of their
standard combat skills, along with several new tools that will only be
available in the downloadable content. These include interactive Strike
Teams under the player's command and unique armor, weapons, and other
exotic gadgets.

The liberation of Anchorage must have taken place before
the entire country was destroyed. How different will the art style be
for this download?

Anchorage has a vastly different art style. It's taking place in
the frozen north; so you have a very bright ice/snow color pallet.
We've had a massive amount of art resources at our disposal, most of
what the player will experience was created from scratch. We've also
taken a lot of time to create a bunch of 'animation vignettes' to make
the soldiers and other NPCs interact with the world in better, more
convincing ways then anything we were able to do with the Fallout 3
main game.

You can go here to read some more and check out a load of screenshots. And, yes, there appears to be an energy weapon tank. And a gauss rifle.

Gardiner: Since this is a simulation of a battle that took place in the past, it is taking place within a computer. It's a "what if" scenario, created by the Government in order to test different counter-offensives against the red menace.
Which sounds like a wonderful excuse for them to add a bunch of shit for the Halo crowd that's never been hinted at existing in the Fallout universe - like an energy weapon hovertank.

As far as DLC goes, this is pretty shitty. It's not even an expansion onto the FO3 world, but just a mini-game inside the game. And who wants to bet that they had capabilities to put vehicles in before the game came out, but instead left it for the DLC.

And yet IGN, of course, fails to bring up the eerily close proximities with the DLC and original game. Its clear they were working on extra content while game was still in production.

I feel like ranting some more. Not many people really have a problem with all this shit but it bugs me, because it is obvious that these people are just scheming to pump high school kids out of their money. Obviously the most desired DLC would have to be the levelcap at this point, allowing one to more fully enjoy the game. Is it not entirely possible that the main character was killed off just so they could say "Hey, buy this and you can continue with the game!" Which actually just repairs a numb skull move made by Bethesda in the first place.

And people eat it rght up!! If you go to ign, you will find tons of comments about how much these fucktards love Bethesda! Love?!? Bethesda?!?! Can one truly love a corporation run by greedy fucktards? I guess one must lack the initial common sense. Ok, so it isn't even like they do away with the level cap on the first DLC to give the gamers a break in these difficult financial times. NOO!! That would be too ethical. What they will do is release two mediocre DLC packs, and then a final, really awesome one that repairs all the shitty design flaws the made in the first place, and then they will make all of them mandatory.

So you have to get the first OK ones in order to get the final awesome one. MArk my words, the first two DLCs will be recieved by fans in a so-so way when they come out. Bethesda is saving all the really good stuff for the end so they can maximize profit.

I don't suppose any of the new things you find in the simulation can be later found in random encounters, locations, or on enemies, can they?

I'm sure at least the weapons will be available outside the simulation.

It sucks, gauss rifle shouldn't have any graphical effect. I'll just warez these shitty DLC mods. Bethesda can go fuck themselves.

With the way you describe it, it kind of is.

That'd be a badass game to play, zooming around in cybernetic killer-whales with lasers attached and all that.

I would so like a DLC simulation where you can play as a knight or mage in a bland generic fantasy world
