Inverted (green) colours after intro movies

Hi there,
I've just reinstalled fallout after a long while, on xp this time.
The intro movies play fine, but it hangs on the menu, with the last frame of the intro displayed bright green.
I've looked around, and this seems to be a problem well known by the community, however the regular fix (making sure hardware acceleration is on) doesn't seem to help in my case.
I wondered if there are any other ideas?
FYI, it's fully patched up, and I've tried switching back and forth between old and new drivers for my radeon 9600. I've also tried compatibility mode.
There is a seperate problem running Tactics, but I'll put that in a seperate thread for the sake of anyone else with a similar problem browsing the board.

hmm, same problem with F2. I expected as much.
Still, I imagine the fix will be the same too.
