Should I get Oblivion?

Post by POOPERSCOOPER »

Should I get it so that I can play it and find some redeeming qualities that will give me a better hope of fo3? How many of you played it and liked it?

I didn't play it, though. I trust the hivemind on this and was scarred by Morrowind beforehand. May the mudcrab be with you. :salute:

In any case it'll make you hate the idea of Fallout 3 even more.

Oblivion is a gimmick game, fun maybe the first time you go through, but very average fun, and you get more annoyed by all the things that are annoying or bad...

I don't know how much patches have fixed, but it was a severely long way from being any kind of good enough.

Well, you seem content to expose yourself to abominable cinema, why not software too ? You could be a canary to the perils engendered by the baffling (BAFFLING !) love and encouragement of mediocrity in modern media of all stripes. :drunk:

Only if it won't cost you any money, and even then consider the opportunity costs of playing it.

Played it. It's horrible. It has this huge world of NPCs and they're all voiced by the same 3 people. At the same time. It's really really dull.

If you *have* to play it, just go do the Dark Brotherhood questline.

Don't bother unless you're ready to download 3-4 gigs worth of mods to go with. The 360 version is something close to torture.
The answer to your first question is shaddup.

It was a rather OK'ish game, seems awfully huge and non-linear at first, but then you'll get buttfucked by the horrible level scaling system (= on level 2 the cave X is filled with bandits wearing briefs and wielding wooden clubs, on level 60 the very same cave X is filled with twice the amount of bandits with the best equipment available in the game - but they're still guarding that sheep they stole from the poor farmer yesterday D: ).

And then you'll notice that the so called world of freedom isn't that free after all. It's incredible how much limitations you can add to non-linearity and pretty much screw it all up. It's a time killer for sure, but there's nothing to really "get into", so to speak.

If you enjoyed the comic book movies that you've seen lately, there's no reason why you shouldn't get this game.

However, the unmodded version of Oblivion is virtually unplayable, and probably a carcinogen, so you'll have to spend time hunting the right mods.

Alright, thanks for the input guys. I probably won't pick it up as I'm starting to see that Oblivion hasn't aged well with time with you guys.

Also, don't hate on my movie watching skills. I take a lot of time out of my life to give you guys the top quality review you expect from me.
