Next-Gen Previews Fallout 3

[ Game -> Preview ] - More info on Game: Fallout 3

Highlights from Next-Gen's preview of Fallout 3.

How did the Brotherhood get to the east coast? Not in the airships, since Todd ignores Tactics:

Howard says that he disregards Fallout Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel
as part of the Fallout franchise, “much like I disregard Aliens 3 and
4.”

On the teaser:

The demo begins with the trailer that Bethesda recently released,
voiced by Ron “Hellboy” Perlman, but it’s in fact just the beginning of
the game’s intro.

On the landscape:

As indicated by the concept art and trailer that Bethesda had
previously released, it’s clear that we’re not in Cyrodiil anymore.
“Destruction is the new trees,” Howard proclaims. Gone are the lush,
expansive lands of Oblivion’s provinces. These are replaced by charred
land and scorched cars that can explode if shot. Prestigious
gray-walled towns are replaced by makeshift settlements constructed
from the remains of nuclear war; airplane wings, car parts, ruins of
abandoned structures and remnants of pre-war life.

More on the Vista and DirectX10 stuff:

Howard says that Bethesda is still “up in the air” about implementing
DirectX 10 graphical features, which are exclusive to Microsoft’s new
Vista OS. What he does know is that Fallout 3 will not require users to
have DX10 to play the game. “I’m not of the opinion of requiring Vista
to run this game, so it will not be required.”

Why was the game previewed on the XBox?

Howard explains, “They’re all at the same stages of development… We
have competency now on the PS3 since we’ve done Oblivion on that, so
we’re very comfortable on that platform. We often do things on the 360
first because it’s a little bit easier. Why did we show the 360 in the
theater? It just shows better as opposed to the PC [version] in the
theater. [Xbox 360].”
