We Want The Fallout Design Docs!

Post by King of Creation »

[ Community -> Article ] - More info on Game: Fallout 2: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game

A righteous petition has been started by Mikael Grizzly of NMA and Ausir of DAC and The Vault fame, seeking the release of the design documents for the original Fallout. With the purchase of the Fallout IP from Interplay, Bethesda now owns them. We, the fans, would sincerely love to have them so that we might be able to mod the original games to include content that was never included in the game due to time and/or budget constraints. We want to see Fallout in all it's glory. The petition:

To: Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company

With the procurement of the Fallout intellectual property along with
all assets of the franchise, including design documents for Fallout,
Fallout 2, Van Buren, Fallout: Tactics, Fallout: Tactics 2, Fallout:
Brotherhood of Steel and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel 2, Bethesda
Softworks possesses a large number of unique materials about the game.

Fallout, first released in 1997, was, and continues to be, a
masterpiece. However, we only have the finished product at our
disposal, alongside a number of interviews and statements floating in
the Internet. All the documentation about how Fallout was born, what it
was originally intended to look like or how the final game was sculpted
are almost entirely shrouded in mystery.

Chris Avellone, one of the designers of Fallout 2 and Van
Buren released parts of the design documents to the fanbase in his
Fallout Bible series. These elements were met with enthusiasm and joy.
Now Bethesda has the ability to unveil the mystery entirely, by
releasing the design documents to the Fallout fanbase. As these
documents were created by entirely different people and teams, it
wouldn't in any way be harmful to Bethesda Softworks and it's
employees.

No, it would be an excellent move on their part, as it
wouldn't require much effort, as they hold the assets in their
possession, and would be a gesture of good faith to the fanbase, both
hardcore and regular fans.

Please guys, release them. It's impossible to go wrong with this move.

Bethesda could score a LOT of points with the old school Fallout community with this one.

What are you waiting for? Go and SIGN IT.

Uh oh, anyone else think Bethesda will say no? It'd be awesome to have them, but seeing how Beth has been driving so far.... I've got some doubts about that.

Edit :

This kind of signing won't help much :

Meh. We're talking about 10-year old material here. I know Bethesda hasn't shown their good side in community management at all, barring one DaC interviews, but this is so friggin' minimum effort, it's retarded :lalala:

Wow, a whole 57 signatures. Engulfed by such a tidal wave of fan indignation BethSoft will have no choice but to capitulate. Just imagine, if every one of the petitioners sent in a single peanut to Bethesda headquarters...some developer could make himself a peanut-butter sandwich!

I did sign, futile though it may be.

Whats the point? What more information do you need besides the game? I know Ausir is dying to put something new on the vault but other than that I don't think there will be much to reveal that we didn't already know?

I think this is just a snide plan to get an angle on bethesda as to what "Fallout really is" and would be used against them. It would be quite funny though to see the FO fans attack bethesda with the gift they received.

Those were all PsychoSniper's aliases.

If this petition goes over 1,000 signatures I'll be moderately impressed. But it'll still be nothing.

Signed, but they will never ever release those. They are known to be complete bastards to the fanbase (pretty much any franchise) and this would ONLY be a good will move to the fans. Bwahaha! Yeah, I can see this happening.

I'll probably see Queen of the Brits to moon Bush before this works out.

Of course they will, they will also give us the whole franchise and perhaps a pat on the back. "Thanks boys, for keeping the fire on. Here you go, all that you ever wanted. Now I'll go and commit mass suicide with the rest of Bethesda personell. Ta taa!"
