Mature Content in FO3
<strong>[ Game -> Update ]</strong> - More info on <a href="#Bethesda Softworks">Company: Bethesda Softworks</a> | More info on <a href="#Fallout 3">Game: Fallout 3</a>
In a series of "Meet the Devs" threads at the Bethesda FO3 forums, the Interface coder <strong>Socrates200X</strong> gave us this juicy little tidbit from their internal development forum:
<em>"the devs have a thread on the internal forums titled "Sick S%^& You'd Like To See In the Game", which contains various uncensored depraved ideas for content / gameplay / dialog, a goodly portion of which are either already implemented or in development. Yeah, I'm not too worried about FO3 being "watered down"...tongue.gif"</em>

Well I have no doubt that we WILL see mature-ish content in the game, it's also how they impliment it. While Fallout was violent, I never felt it was violent just for violence's sake, but rather because of the setting. So it depends on their suggestions and what they listen to.
If they're gonna go with ANY suggestions, I hope they kill a character named "Jack Thompson."

Also from that dev:
As much as I’d like to hook up certain people to a Clockwork Orangesque device that forced them to appreciate the awesomeness of the classics, I think the only thing it would get me is a high electricity bill. As cool as it would be, I don’t think FO3 will make the population at-large appreciate the classics anymore than modern literary works drive the masses to read Shakespeare. ( “OMG hamlet rox soo much. i luv the dagger scene in act iiiâ€Â “dagger scene is macbeth LOL NOOB!!1″ ).
...
I’m a fan of immersive UIs, myself. UIs like the ones in Metroid Prime or Half-Life, where the HUD is part of the character’s environment instead of a seperate entity, suck me further into the game world, which equals more play-time for me. FO3’s UI passes my immersion test…I’ll leave it at that…
Question: There’s an obvious question that everyone wants to ask, and you can’t answer, but here’s a follow up that should be alright. Is the pipboy interface from fallout immersive in your opinion, since the pipboy is literally something you’re supposed to have with you?
I’d say yes. Fallout 1’s Pipboy UI is an example of a UI that’s part and parcel of the game world, and so lends itself to this crazy thing we call “immersion. Diablo II would be the inverse of that. While its UI wasn’t too intrusive, I can’t imagine my Barbarian carrying around two huge red and blue orbs.
Why dont these fuckers ever announce such things on DAC ?
THATS why Im so hostile (in part).

Yeah, so its GONA be a shooter like in Half Life ...........

Man, these devs have so much design theory coming out of their ass that it's a wonder they need human beings to program at all. Why not just get an expert system to go all "minimalist this" and "immersive that" on beloved franchise X and get the extruded paste the execs really want.
Death: "Only one man can kill this many Russians. Bring his guitar to me!"
"hey, what if the character would have a godpiece and say: "Ohh...the wind in me balls! (irish accent)" wouldn't that be so kickass!"
"Yeah! but don't you think it's too mature? I mean that's pretty rude!!"
"Hmm...true...wind in me legs?"
"Kickass! That's some sick shit man!"
