[ Person -> Interview ] - More info on Person: Feargus Urquart
RPGCodex have put up an interview with Feargus Urguhart of Obsidian Entertainment (previously of Black Isle and Fallout 2 fame). It's pretty general, but it's always nice to catch up with Black Isle alumni. 16) Our final question: having been previously connected to the
development of the Fallout series, what do you feel about Bethesda
acquiring the license – and the fanbase? Were you disappointed or
relieved that you didn't get the license? After all, you can be quoted
as once having said that that "Fallout fans are the worst".
They are the worst! :) However, I am disappointed that we won't be able
to make anymore Fallouts. While there has always been arguments about
who was really responsible for Fallout and I've always said that Tim,
Leonard and Jason are principally responsible for a lot of what the
original Fallout was about, I also know the amount of creativity, time,
energy and love that I put into both Fallouts. I hold Fallout really
close to my heart and if there was a chance at some point to make
another one, I would jump at it.
One criticism, guys: I did a thorough search and didn't find the phrase SLAM DUNK! anywhere. Other than that, it's an interesting read. |

I can't remember if it is an actual quote or just a catchphrase, but Feargus grew a reputation for trying to create "SLAM DUNK!"-titles, sure-fire hits, usually cheap in production cost because they were a sequel rehash on an old engine (like Fallout 2, or any expansion pack under Urqu's vision).
It became a kind of catchphrase when people started typing "SLAM DUNK!" in reply to any of Feargus' new brilliant schemes (KotOR II) or in the middle of any discussion on game production you didn't like (horse armor for Oblivion). |

That sounds like the ultimate videogame abomination. You simply can't 'get it right' no matter how much heart you put into it.
Will it sell? Probably!

In other news, Fallout MMO is now codenamed "Project Baguette". |

An actual quote, used to persuade people into the idea that IWD2 in just six months was a sure hit that could be made. He hates that quote, so I stopped teasing him for that a couple of years ago, he takes it too personally. Many good games were put on hold since Interplay was crumbling and needed some quick bucks, Fallout3 is a good example of that practice. To be fair Fergus didn't have a choice on that, Interplay was pretty desperate all the time, while keeping the opposite image. |

So interplay's 'slam dunk' in reality acted like shaq slam dunking and shattering the rim.
Loud, noisy, and flashy, but untimently slowed up the product and hurt buisness. |
