[ Game -> Update ] - More info on <a href="#S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadows of Chernobyl">Game: S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadows of Chernobyl</a>

<a href="http://www.thq.com" target="_blank">THQ</a> has announced that <a href="http://www.stalker-videogame.com/" target="_blank">STALKER</a>, the much-anticipated FPS-hybrid, has been shipped. From the press-release:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl gives gamers unprecedented freedom to explore the devastated exclusion zone that surrounds the Chernobyl power plant following a second apocalyptic explosion. It is now available at retail outlets nationwide for the suggested price of $39.99.

Each character follows his own life cycle: stalkers roam the Zone, carry out certain tasks, rest, sleep and eat. Monsters hunt, eat, sleep, rest, migrate and fight for their lives.

Stalker is fun, jah. I've been playing it since Monday morning. AI is weird at some times. They do eat, sleep, talk, do random shit. Animals run around in packs and are easily killed at STALKER difficulty. Military guys with armor take 20+ bullets to the body to kill. Lots of running and no vehicles make Homer crazy. I reccomend using the Omega Drivers http://www.omegadrivers.net/nvidia/win2k_xp.php to play this game and get every last bit of extra framerate.

It's still a fun game. :torrent:

As for STALKER, I might pick it up if I thought it'd run decently on my 3ghz system (ati x800 pro). Not sure if it will though - how does it run? I know the specs, but you can't really rely on those...

You should have no problem running it. I am currently running it on my machine, which is a 1.6 ghz AMD Athlon with 512 mb ram and a Radeon 9550 256mb. Admittedly, the framerates are not exactly through the roof, but it is playable if you turn some of the settings down.

Thanks for posting more non-news, Urizen... and for swallowing Mettalix' bate. I am sure he does not mind the publicity after nagging in IRC.

Also, Wal-Mart didn't have STALKER, and that's the only place open at one in the morning so I won't be purchasing it today.
