How successful was FO1 commercially?

Discuss the game that started it all, and its sequel. Technical questions and issues go into the Fallout Technical Support forum, not here.

150k isn't too bad or very good. It's like a successful cult game, which would be profitable but not a super mega hit.

edit: leon brokaksasky said fallout sold over 300-400k over its lifespan but i dunno if he means both fallouts combined or just the first one. That would be a good number if it was just the first one but you have to consider the lifetime could be quite a few years and they discounted the price to like 10 bucks so the revenue wouldn't be that great.

I think FO2 sold less than FO1, too.

fallout, #20 on the list for 1997

seems to me that's not bad at all. :)

I went to my local Deals (dollar store), and bought all 9 copies of the Fallout/Fallout2 double packs for a dollar each!

So, since they were only a dollar for both games, I'm going to guess they didn't sell well. Which is actually surprising because they're some of the best games of all time (not an opinion, a fact).

as we've already stated, they didnt sell terribly, they just didnt sell magnificently.

also this was ten years ago and then company is now bankrupt, so it doesnt surprise me that you picked them up for a dollar each.

sales for fallout and fallout 2 probably didn't matter for anything after 01 so 300-400k wouldn't be counted all the way up to leons post on codex. Sales won't count everything for the last 10 years, everything after a certain point is irrelevant because the company isn't making any money on it because they aren't making it anymore.

Plus leon wouldn't know the official sales unless he was at Interplay and the upper ups actually released the info. He is estimating the amount sold overall. We will never know the official amount sold unless you guys want to buy the information from NPD or Interplay.

Also, its actually not that many years since computer games still were a thing for a small percentile of the population
Its only in the recent years its become more of a mainstream and socially accepted activity to do

games back then simply didnt sell too much, but they didnt cost too much to make either
