Diary of the Dead direct to video?

Post by Mr. Teatime »

<strong>[ Film & TV -> Update ]</strong> - More info on <a href="#Diary of the Dead">Film & TV: Diary of the Dead</a>

<p>George Romero's cut himself loose of hollywood for his next film, Diary of the Dead, that apparently goes back to the initial outbreak of zombies in his apocalyptic vision. And now he's saying he's <a href="http://www.dreadcentral.com/index.php?n ... le&sid=375" target="_self">planning possibly to take it direct to video</a>. George's reason is that he can do the movie his way, put in violence that they wouldn't allow to be in the cinemas, and generally make the film he wants without having to worry about Hollywood telling him what he can and can't do. I think this is a good thing.</p><blockquote><p><em>Diary</em> will follow the exploits of a group of college students
who are making a horror film. When the news breaks that the dead are
returning to life, the group hops into their van with their camera in
an attempt to try and get some footage.

<em>"I want to do this from a subjective kind of view with no music. You know, something really raw,"</em> Romero elaborates. <em>"So it's kind of a stylistic experiment, a low budget, under the radar kind of thing that's just sort of from the heart."</em>

Right now <em>Diary of the Dead</em> looks like something Romero is
more interested in releasing in a direct-to-video capacity instead of
theatrically, although that might happen as well.

Why direct-to-video? George can do more of what he wants that way.
Especially pertaining to how much violence can be showcased in the
movie. <em>Diary</em>
is a project he is making for his fans independent of all the usual
Hollywood rules and regulations. Romero also assured me that there will
be <em>the right kind of gore</em> in the film that we all know and love, and he is in talks with Greg Nicotero of KNB to do the effects. </p></blockquote><p>It's clear that this is not something forced on George - he <em>could</em> make a big screen film, but is choosing not to. So I think this will turn out pretty good. </p><p>Spotted @ <a href="http://www.bloody-disgusting.com">Bloody-Disgusting.com</a></p>

Good luck to him on this one. I'd like to see what he makes out of this freedom.

Crap.

Smacks of 90's indy-trendy crap.

College students trying to make film end up documenting their own horror experience.

How many times has this film been made?

The setting put me off at first, but this update encourages... He states this is about students going out to get footage of the dead.

They don't go out and get caught by surprise by the undead, they literally go out looking for them soon after the crisis has begun, in what sounds like a slightly adventurous, semi-journalistic capacity.

Fairly realistic, methinks.

Do they get guns first?

Why college students?

Why not Combat Photographers attached to USAMRIID?

Ohh, this is good. :drunk:

Took the words right out of my fingers. Then again, I did score after I took a date to that movie. Hmm.

Sounds interesting, but I'm afraid that it may turn into another stupid gore flick.

Greatest zombie movie of all time = Night of the Living Dead (the 1968 version obviously).

It's probably going direct to video because it's going to suck. The only good zombie movie he made was Night of The Living Dead. George Romero sucks.

Not all direct to video movies are all that bad, some of them even have pretty decent sized budgets too. a lot of time you can get confused from watching a movie on the TV thinking that it might of came out in theaters but your not sure.

Tremors 2 was pretty good direct to video movie. Boondock saints.

and remember George's last project was pretty big hollywood style. He was pissed at the demands the studio made and has actively chosen to cut loose of them, which is why this could be direct to DVD. That's what I understand anyway.

Dude everyone rewatch Land of the Dead. It's not NEARLY as bad as you remember if you just close your eyes, plug your ears, and scream as loud as you can for the last twenty seconds or so.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

As much as I enjoyed seeing Land of the Dead on a big screen and would love to see another Romero film up there that's true to his form, this probably is the smarter route for this one.

I just hope that he shoots it on actual film and makes something good enough that the studio will ask him to consider an actual release.

Can we all agree that Day Of The Dead sucked balls? I hope it's good too. I enjoy zombie movies as much as the next guy but Land of The Dead blew!
