The zombie apocalypse continues

Post by Mr. Teatime »

[ Film & TV -> Update ] - More info on Person: George Romero | More info on Film & TV: Diary of the Dead

We don't cover many movies here at DaC, but screw it. George Romero is great. And it's just been announced that he's working on the 5th film in the zombie-apocalypse '... of the dead' series, which started in the 1960s with Night of the Living Dead. This one's called, somewhat lamely, Diary of the Dead:

The dead are rising again.

The
Hollywood Reporter writes that horror maven George A. Romero has signed
on to write and direct "George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead," the
latest sequel to his 1968 cult classic "Night of the Living Dead."

With a story mixing elements of "The Blair Witch Project" and the
long-running "Dead" series, the film will follow a group of college
students shooting a horror movie in the woods who stumble upon a real
zombie uprising. When the onslaught begins, they seize the moment as
any good film students would, capturing the undead in a "cinema verite"
style that causes more than the usual production headaches.

After going more than two decades without making an independently
financed zombie film, Romero told his production partner Peter Grunwald
he was frustrated working within the system. "I was trying to convince
Peter we could just run off and do it ourselves," he said.

It's not clear on whether this is a direct sequel or something of a spin off, but I don't care that much: nobody does zombies munching on brains like George Romero.

Spotted @ Bloody-Disgusting.com

It's obviously some fucking spin off. Unless he wants to fuck up his own universe. I was hoping for an honest to god sequel. Land of the Dead was... uh.. yeah.

Well fuck that picture. I just copied and pasted and the picture came with the article.

Anyway, yeah I dunno why he's doing this spinoff, the article mentions World of the Dead as being the next thing, so... I dunno. Surely not a SLAM DUNK project?

Hum, the premise sounds pretty bland. Wonder if Romero will manage to pull this one off. Better not be Land of the Dead all over again.

Land of the Dead didn't have much of a plot, but it was good at portraying a zombie world and had some interesting characters... Dennis Hopper for instance... the whole thing was just undeveloped as far as plot went.

Hmm. Returning to simplicity with a low budget might bring back some of the old charm.

Land of the Dead was a decent critique on class structure, although a campy one. Not at all one of the Dead series but still a worthwhile viewing. I had heard that his next Dead film was going to be "Road of the Dead" or something like that where the lead from Land did a road trip across the zombie wasteland. Glad to see he is going back to his roots and doing it all himself, leading me to believe the shortcommings of Land will not be repeated.
my vocabulary skills is above you.

I really dont care about how zombies evolve like in Land of the Dead, I thought that was just not very well done, it's just giving the zombies too much personality. His new movie or whatever sounds like a lot more fun except its in a forest and its about a group of teens.

When you find people who start to cheer for the zombies more then the humans, there's something wrong.

Land of the Dead was supposed to be two hours of Dead Reckoning blowing shit up. I shit you not. But some Big Budget Hooplah We Own You Do It Our Way shit happened and Romero got fucked in the ass. Basically he had 8 months of production time and the final result was not at all what he had planned for.

I want him to get a big budget and a lot of freedom in movie making. Like that'll happen.

Also, learning zombies are retarded, that's why the of the Dead series kind of turned me off after Day of the Dead, I knew exactly what was coming in Land when I first heard about it and I was not thrilled.

It's strange that Romero isn't bankable enough for a studio to give him a bunch of money and say he can do what the fuck he wants. If you're gonna market a movie on his name, why wouldn't you let him make the movie he wants?

At least they manage to come with an original name for each new movie :salute: :drunk:

How about an original plot for a change?
