Fallout 3, still no comment

<strong>[ Game -> Interview ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... title=Pete Hines">Person: Pete Hines</a> | More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... e=Bethesda Softworks">Company: Bethesda Softworks</a> | More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... le=Fallout 3">Game: Fallout 3</a>

<p>Pete Hines has been interviewed, mainly about Oblivion, <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/front_index.php" target="_self">at CVG</a>. The final question deals with Fallout 3, and this is what Pete says:</p>
<blockquote>
<p>
<strong>And finally - how's Fallout 3 coming along?</strong></p>
<p>
<strong>Pete Hines: </strong>We've got a lot of folks
working on that game now, and what I've seen of it so far is looking
really good and has me very excited - I'm a big fan. We're approaching
Fallout 3 as if we developed the first and second games - we're
developing it just like we developed Oblivion. Fallout 3 is our baby,
we want to stay true to what it is and we want to deliver something
that all the fans think is worthwhile. We're trying to move the series
forward, keeping it fresh and cool while staying true to its roots.
When we're ready we'll let people know, and hopefully people will be
excited about some of the ideas we have and some of the stuff we're up
to.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>I'm not quite sure how to take that really. I guess they'll have more to say when Oblivion comes out. </p>

Pete Hines for President in 2008. The guy is so ambiguous with his statements regarding Fallout 3 that I could swear Orwell wrote up his lines for the interviews.

Things seem to be getting into full swing over at Bethesda. I'd imagine Oblivion is basically finished, aside from tweaks, so hopefully most of the talent is working on Fallout 3.

I'm actually bothered somewhat by those lines as it gives me the impression that they're not going to take anything from the first two games in regards to their creation of FO3. Just kind of makes me think they're going to go "Hey! This is cool! Let's add this!"

I could be wrong though.

My faith would have sunk to an all new nadir at this, were there any faith. Fortunately, I am not that daft. :drunk:

"Fresh and cool" while "still true to its roots"?

3-D Child/Flamethrower death animations?

Or does this mean a Bratz tie-in?

Or both? (at once)

At least,that's the (only) good news.Fallout 3 is out of that damned pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-...-preproduction status.

I'm cynical. Afterall, it's Bethesda developing the fucker.

The fact that it's bethesda developing it, which means it will be developed primarily with consideration to the current console sack of shit of the moment (ie: It will run like shit on a pc unless it's grossly overqualified for the job), makes me want to stab their collective eyes out with a fork and piss in the bleeding sockets. Nice and salty-like.

I equate them attempting to re-invent this game roughly to having to watch some sick bastard dig-up and fuck your dead grandmother. It's wrong and nothing good can come of it. Bad memories ahoy.

Of course they still listen to us. Pete calls me every night after work and tells me how his day was at the big video game office. I tell him what kind of mischief my cute little dogs got into. Then, he tells me all the supersecret Fallout 3 plot twists Todd came up with that day and we both giggle and giggle.

I cherish those moments more than anything.

In my opinion, BethSoft should carefully analyze what kind of game the fans really want. This is the fucking basis on what to build a game. Fallout is an existing franchise, not a new one, and the fanbase is quite large. I think the failure of the last two spin-offs show that Fallout fans don't accept anything with post-apoc, cool words like motherfucker and a Fallout logo on it. I'm not saying they should take half-assed suggestions from fans, but forgetting what made the original Fallout so popular would be a big mistake. So would be alienating the fans even further.

It's about time the fans get a sequel they can enjoy, don't you think? Or are you implying isometric, turn-based RPG with a retrofuturistic feel is an obstacle for improvement?
