European Version of FO2=Product of impossible logic

Post by Bulldog »

I happened to be living in England when I bought my copy of Fallout 2 and have since loaded up to play through again. Sadly I forgot a tiny pocket of insanity held within this game. THERE ARE NO CHILDREN! One of my friends told me to get a wrench from a kid in Vault City, and now I'm clueless as what to do next. Any solutions, and perhaps any light on this "edition" would be most appreciated.

There is supposedly a patch floating around which adds children to the UK version, but I don't know where, and if it is still available, because I managed to get my grubby paws on a US version (lucky me), so I don't need to worry about it.

Go here if you want the patch and there should be a wrench in the vault or in Val's (Vic's daughter) shop.

There are also other places in the game to get wrenches. I'm pretty sure there's one in Redding's mining camp area.

Or, you could do like me: either keep walking between NCR and Vault City hoping to meet a caravan with a wrench for sale, or buy one in San Francisco. I hate that damn wrench quest...
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Yeah, but I think it's only in US version. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope, you're wrong. The only difference between the US and UK (both being patched) is the lack of children graphic.

But what about this bit of information? :?

What bit of information?

The reason you can't get the wrench is because you need to click on the child to give him his doll... WIthou the graphic, you can't click on him... meaning that you can't solve the quest since he'll never mention the line about the wrench being hidden in there without giving him the doll...

And you can't solve another quest in european version of fallout 2. The Jonny quest in modoc.

And chems are used instead of drugs.

They have modified the european version a bit, not just the kids. I've only played it once through.

When you talk to VC's nurse, you ask her why there aren't any children and she explains, then you can say "Oh then that's it, i thought there weren't any children 'cause i was in the european version of Fallout2."

I laughed my ass off the day i discovered the no-kids crap :D .

Nope, the "chems" term is used in (US) FO2 too.
Remember it's called "Chem reliant/resistant" not "Drug"...

FO1 might have been different, but in FO2 the only difference is the pic missing.

It does happen that I'm wrong. I have to admit that, but that's failrly unfrequent, and in the end, if you insist (and know you're right :)), I'll be the one learning something, so I (eventually) abdicate - once I've tried it out myself :D
