Wes and Guardian,

Both are good points.

Pessimism takes less effort, I think. Also, for those who do not like surprises, if you expect the worst and it happens, no big deal.

Optimism takes some effort. But life isn't so damned gloomy. But when something unpleasant comes along, POW, you're hit.

I hope to see more response on this item. A full blown discussion would be cool. I want more perspective than I personally have, in this.

I once heard of a study that concluded that pessimists tend to have a more realistic view of the world than optimists. I thought it was pretty depressing.

You know, I've heard that, too. And I agree. Damned depressing fact. It's a shame that people who look at the darker side of things happen to be right about those things, most of the time. Says a lot for this planet, don't it?

see now, passimists might have a better understanding of the truth in life- that its not all colorful, all fun, ppl die, you would possibly die soon, and so on... but, i prefer to look at the bright side of life... yes, life is depressing, and its shit most of the times, and chances are you'll be just another voice among the millions of shouts

but it doesnt mean you have to get depressed over it

since we're all going to kick the bucket eventualy, why think about it? its like when you go to give a blood sample: you think about the needle penetrating your vein, watch it as it goes into your arm, and suffer, or, you can think about pussy and not look at the damn thing, makes it less painful

alright, thats a realy shitty mataphor, but you get the idea :roll:

Nah. The methaphor wasn't so bad, I think.

Anyhow, the one thing that helps me get by from one day to the next is the simple fact that no matter what happens and how bad things get, 2 seconds after I become a corpse, I won't give a rat's ass about anything that happened before. At least I don't think I'll give a rat's ass. I'm sure I'll have much bigger problems...

I'm more of a pessimist, but I have some moments of optomism, I'm known for my times in each of the sides but on the whole, I'm neutral but leaning heavily to pessimism.
