What not to think

Since Bethesda decided to make Fallout 3, we figured we might as well have a forum about it.

Fallout 3 use a heavily convolved D&D rule set!?!/

There are so many things wrong with that statement.

I feel soiled having read it. :(
I miss the good ol' USSA.

I wish they'd use the rock paper scissors system in Fallout 3.

It makes combat a lot more fun you just click on an enemy and

SET IT AND FORGET IT

I really liked BG combat because of that. You could strategically use all your party members at the same time and pause whenever you wanted to change tactics.

I won all battles by using someone as bait and let others pound the enemy from long distance. So much for strategy. Then just sleep and all your magicks are full again. :)

Annoyingly, even though you controlled a group, your own PCs still did whatever they wanted. So basically all I had to do was trying to prevent them not to get themselves killed. Oh, and the death spells made some boss fights way too easy. Same thing with the cloak in BG2 that deflected all spells cast at you; beholders were only a nuisance once you got that item.

I personally launched a barrage of area of effect spells on them from out of their sights. Sure, it's cheap but I'm a little bitch.

Yeah, I used that too on dragons. The combat in Infinity Engine games isn't that bad, but it had some flaws that allowed some cheap tricks in battles. A short line of sight for enemies is one, poor AI another. At least the combat has more tactical depth than KOTOR or Arcanum, for example. Although nothing beats turn-based, I prefer real-time with pause over real-time.

I liked Arcanum's choice of real-time, turn-based and accelerated turn-based. At first, I used real-time in the vein of Baldur's Gate then I got tired of not having the time to use some strategy and just looking at swords bashing away at a few thousand meters an hour and switched to accelerated real-time to backstab people with my thief :evil_laugh:. I really prefer accelerated: no watching the people run, just fast strategy!

The KOTOR character system is idiot proof. No matter how you waste your points your character will be exactly the same by the time you reach end game. :D AWESOME! This is especially true in KOTOR2.
The answer to your first question is shaddup.

In a thoroughly awful, not-at-all-fun, terribly nasty sort of way that actually looks rather fun. :drunk:
