S.T.A.L.K.E.R. delayed until next year

Post by Fez »

<strong>[ Game -> Update ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... .A.L.K.E.R: Shadows of Chernobyl">Game: S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadows of Chernobyl</a>

<p>Any hopes of seeing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. before the end of the year have
now vanished as it has been confirmed that the previous delay in
the release date has pushed it back to at least some time in 2006:</p>
<blockquote>
<p><em>"In
two words, to sum up an ICQ chat: when the plot is fully implemented
(it is being completed), the simulation will be finally tuned. This is
what the team is doing right now.

The game will certainly not come out this year.

Look for the beginning of the wide advertising campaign, as it will mean half a year until the release."</em> </p>
</blockquote>
<p>You can see the original post over at <a target="_blank" href="http://stalker.myexp.de/en/index.php?si ... hp&id=1847">
Oblivion-Lost.com</a>. It seems like all the promises about the revolutionary AI and environments to explore were harder to fulfil than expected.

Was there any game which was delayed, delayed, and delayed, then came out ok? I think not.

I am shocked and saddened by this amazing news! Why haven't I heard anything about this before?

Being delayed for 4 years is quite a stretch though. Joke about DN:F.

Yes the date of the games final actual release is more random than the gameplay of STALKER, The Fall and Hellgate: London put together

All the Blizzard games. And Half Life 2, though it's not all that hot.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. could end up in the same mess that Boiling Point did. The constantly slipping release dates do not fill me with confidence. Eventually the publisher is going to get fed up with them and push the game out of the door "as is" and pretend they can just patch it afterwards.

PS. just don't tell me posting only emoticons here is offtopic and asshatic.

wait wait, I've got it, they're trying to make everyone FORGET about Stalker (it's Oblivion Lost, for chrissake), and then, and then they'll announce it anew! And we'll all go :dance: what an interesting game! :joy:

At least they're not releasing it and then patching it to buggery.

I'd rather see Duke Nuken Forever. I have a feeling it will be released before Stalker, anyway.

If I've understood correctly, they have difficulties with the AI/dynamic gameworld. But that was already 2 years ago. It's sad really, because all the features that were considered as 'revolutionary in FPS's' then such as the dynamic gameworld, the physics model and even the graphics aren't that special today. Far Cry and Boiling Point got there first, although they failed in other areas. It's difficult to sell a game to gaming mags and consumers if it doesn't offer anything exceptional. Mediocreity doesn't sell. As time passes, it seems more likely STALKER is going to end up in the same bin as Daikatana, Duke Nukem Forever, Team-Fortress 2 and the rest.
