Well apperently Fallout 2 was suposed to have "Ask about" like Fallout 1 had. So they scripted it in Aroyo and than somewhere in production they decided to scratch that in Fallout 2 but they left the script for it inside the game. And if they had it when you ask about elder they say she is your mother.
Yeah, I know all that stuff... It's just strange how much weird stuff they left behind. Why not delete it all when they decided to scrap the whole Ask About-function? Hm... Strange stuff, indeed. But I don't think in the final version she's the protagonist's mother any more. They had some other plans?
Now that I come to think of it, it would've not worked. She would've been too close to you (your relations to her, her sending you on a dangerous mission etc.) and besides - that would rule out the possibility that the Vault Dweller was a woman! Of course in the "official" progress of events VD *was* a man, but still...
There is all kinds of stuff left behind in Fallout 2 that was never used. Food system would be one of them. When you eat it actually adds food level but thats where that script ends.

nah, it wouldn't, because in fallout2 you are the great-grand son/daughter of the vault dweller
