you all arent talking about a fallout-esque civilisation, what you all want is to be your own damn bosses and to have the rules of civilisation fall to your knees and beg for forgiveness before you blast it in the head with a shotgun shell. We all hate the way civilisation is heading, over-crowded monotonous masses preforming our simple processes to meek out a living and make it through another day. But will dropping the bombs or staging that revolution really make it better ? We all seem to not apprieciate what we have until it is gone, we now pine for our freedom from oppressors and shitty jobs now, but when the cushy life is gone and its hard hunting reality will we miss it ?

Sure a more simplified life where the strongest/youngest (ergo us) are the leaders and our current oppressors (ergo wise/elderly fat cats/corporate types/ george bush.) are our prey is a nice idea, but thats easy to say sitting in a padded chair behind an expensive computer neon dingo, why dont you try it in a more practical situation *insert coaxing neon dingo to start che-guavarian revolution with eventual nuking of major countries*

As for living in the wasteland, it'd be tricky because I have a skin condition to sunlight, so i'd be rather in pain and crispy.

You can still eat radiated critters because most of the radiation pools around certain organs,I don't have my survival book with me at the moment to tell you which organs to stay away from, but you can still eat it, I think it also collects in the bones. In any case, if there is a way to survive someone will figure it out. Humans don't much like dying and try to prevent it from happening, probably why there hasn't been an atomic war yet.

Radiation isn't that hard to overcome if you're smart. Shelter is extremely important if you live in an area of high radiation levels.

Fallout particles wash off of the exterior of food, such as a tomato. The problem is when the radiation gets in the food cycle. You either know how to be really careful with what you eat, have a lot of wheat stocked up (nearly indefinite shelf life, along with honey), or travel to an area where radiation is minimal.

It is estimated that 100 million people will die (but I'm willing to bet that's a bit optomistic), which means that large amounts of survivors will remain. Millions of these survivors will succumb to radiation, but due to the sheer number of survivors humanity will not cease to exist.

Zone A 1000 R Will kill absolutely everyone exposed or unsheltered
Zone B 500 R Will Kill more than half the people unsheltered
Zone C 300 R Will Cause everyone to be sick and vomit and have diarrhea, many will die from these symptoms, called radiation poisoning. When they could have prepared at home.

I think it's highly apparent that the East Coast is FUCKED.

Luckily I live perfectly in the middle of a pocket where there is no fallout. I live a little north of Dallas, Texas.

Maybe that's why they chose the West Coast as the location in Fallout?

I donno, I wouldn't mind an apocalypse... it would at least be something to do. Like you said Nacho Monkey, all we're doing now is eeking out an existance a day at a time, to no end. Oh sure, there's an end, retire. And die. Work your whole life so you can spend the worst years of it trying to relax around prostate problems. Not cool.

I'm sorta weighing my odds... either keep on going as I am now, and hope for something big and disruptive to throw the US into apocalyptic chaos, where life will be tough but at least I'll be living for myself, or, move to cold northern Canada where I can live for myself and pretend the world's been nuked to shit, or we suffered a massive economic collapse, or Bush got reelected. Either way - I'm not spending the rest of my life toiling away in the horrible grinding gears of the social machine.

I actually really like Canada myself, more of a land of the free than America is.

46&2, just be happy you're still a pretty good shot with stats like those. Gonna have a hard time with The Master, unless you stock up.
