Well, I think the location should be hidden until you are told about it. I mean, I really doubt that beforehand, the Chosen One would make a big deal about stopping by at some old hermit's hut. They could have made it so that it does a check for that exit grid to even appear. They could have made it so that you wouldn't "notice" the trap door unless told or something.
