<strong>[Company -> Update]</strong>

<a href="http://avault.com/">AVault</a> has a little <a href="http://www.avault.com/news/displaynews. ... ">story</a> about how <a href="http://www.vivendiuniversal.com/vu2/en/ ... iversal</a> may sell of their Video Game division to recoup some of the losses they've had over several years. <a href="http://www.vivendiuniversal.com/vu2/en/ ... iversal</a> is currently publishing titles for <a href="http://interplay.com">Interplay</a>, as well as having <a href="http://www.sierrastudios.com">Sierra</a> and <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/">Blizzard</a> under their thumb. They could earn close to <b>$2,000,000,000</b> for such a sale. Thanks to <b>Exitium</b> of <a href="http://rpgplanet.com/lionheart">The Inquisition</a> for pointing this story out.

Woah! For a minute there, I thought you said they could get $2 billion from the sale.

>checks again<

Oh... You did.

I suppose it'd break down into something like this:
Blizzard - $1.2 Billion
Sierra - $700 Million
Interplay - $1 Million
The Rest - $59 Million

Hmm... I think I undervalued Sierra a bit.
Sierra - $700.9 Million
Interplay - $0.1 Million

There, much better.

Vivendi just publishes for Interplay. They don't own Interplay, Titus owns them.

 My mistake. I got confused and added Interplay in their with Blizzard and the rest.
Vivendi Universal wrote:The No. 2 creator of PC games worldwide, the division is a global reference in the gaming world, driven by the creativity of its studios - Blizzard Entertainment, Sierra Entertainment and Universal Interactive - the quality of its development, and the breadth of its distribution networks.
I think they'd be mad to sell off their publishing arm though. Looking at those sales figures for Diablo, Half-Life, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon (no wonder they say the money is in consoles) and the rest. I'd presume it's a very profitable arm of the company. In my opinion, things must really be in the crapper if they think it's worth selling off.

Okay, I'm wrong, so they're more likely to sell it off:
http://media.guardian.co.uk/city/story/ ... 50,00.html

They're trying to sell their Italian pay-TV station to Rupert for £1bn:
http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/s ... 38,00.html
Vivendi Universal eventually threw in the towel and agreed to a sale after bankers pressed it to reduce its £12bn debt burden.
... and I thought Interplay had debt problems. Eeesh..
Vivendi Universal Games, the second largest manufacturer of games for PCs, is valued at £1.25bn.

The report added that Jean-Rene Fourtou, the new chief executive of the group, had ruled out selling Vivendi's 44% stake in Cegetel, the much admired telecoms operator.
Looks like the games are definately going to go. Anyone got a spare couple of billion I could borrow? I have some shopping I'd like to do. :D
