And the question is, you'll never know if they're really of the age they told you. Besides, they may not even be native English Speakers.

Hm. True. But one person in particular (I won't name names...yet) said he was in his 30's, and married, and went on in detail about how "busy" his life is and how he doesn't have time to check the forums ever day or whatever. His message was full of grammar and spelling errors, but I'm just hyper-aware of those things. Must be in the genes - my mom is the same way.
