[ Game -> Update ] - News related to Top Story: Fallout: New Vegas World Premier in OXM | More info on Company: Obsidian Entertainment | More info on Game: Fallout: New Vegas

We reported earlier about a rumor that Fallout: New Vegas would be the cover of next month's Game Informer. Those rumors were debunked. Hot on its heels, however, The Official XBox Magazine has announced that Fallout: New Vegas will have its world premier in their magazine next month.

The new issue of OXM goes on sale tomorrow, and you probably already know it's got a world exclusive Medal of Honor preview in it. But inside you'll see that the Next Month page reveals the following issue, which goes on sale 11th February, should have the world exclusive details on Fallout: New Vegas.

So while we might be having a joke about Vault Boy's New Careers, we're expecting to have the first solid information on the next Fallout adventure in just over a month.

We don't normally plug this sort of thing, because we're still working on the issue and the content is subject to change - sharp-eyed viewers will note the small print stating that at the bottom. But as some other sites have noticed we thought we'd put a proper image up and save them the trouble of scanning it.

So remember, February 11th, issue 56. Subscribe now to make sure you don't miss out.

What's REALLY STUPID is the fact that the cover says it is "Bethesda's new post apocalyptic RPG." Get your facts straight console guys. It's Obsidian Entertainment.

Update: I pointed out to the guys at OXM about the Obsidian/Bethesda gaffe on the image. Jon Hicks, editor of the magazine, was nice enough to respond. He acknowledged the fact that it's not Bethesda who is making the game, but:

Thanks for writing,
but that’s intentional. The feature itself is of course based around Obsidian but Bethesda is cited because it’s the publisher, and because it’s the better known of the two companies. The image is an internally created ad for a forthcoming issue rather than the cover itself, so it’s been created to spark interest rather than go into precise detail. Seems to have succeeded in that respect, at least.

Why not just give Obsidian the credit they deserve?

Email OXM and tell them you want Obsidian's name on the front cover!

It's still Bethesda producing so we'll probably get another boring FPS with their shitty "turn-based system" with slow motion kills?

My email to the fine people at OXM:

Dear John Hicks

I've been a very occasional reader of your magazine for a while now. However, I noticed on an online forum you credited Fallout: New Vegas to Bethesda rather than Obsidian. At first, I thought it was a mistake, until I came across this lovely gem:

Thanks for writing, but thatís intentional. The feature itself is of course based around Obsidian but Bethesda is cited because itís the publisher, and because itís the better known of the two companies. The image is an internally created ad for a forthcoming issue rather than the cover itself, so itís been created to spark interest rather than go into precise detail. Seems to have succeeded in that respect, at least.

So, you decided to shun your journalistic integrity, and instead, twist the facts to gain "interest" (sales). Surely, as the OFFICIAL Xbox magazine you don't need to lie to people to get them to purchase your fine publication? Surely, your position as the OFFICIAL Xbox magazine means you have the power to decide who the big-name developers are, bringing maybe those less known out of the shadows, and scrutinising the bigger names? Being a big name company shouldn't be easy, you should be constantly on their case, giving them a hard time, challenging them every step of the way, making them work to hold onto their positionat the top, not giving their games 10/10. Really? Fallout 3 was perfect? I loved it at first, but even then I only gave it my personal 7, which they managed to whittle down to a 3 with their subpar add-ons. 10/10? Really? The game was perfect and didn't need changing at all?. What about the bad voice acting? What the graphics, which only looked decent from far away? What about the 3rd person perspecive being unplayable? and let's not forget how you applauded the game for its "RPG Elements", ignoring the fact it's far too easy to break the game.

I don't miracles from you. I know videogame journalists are a shallow breed, who see integirty as something so alien, they'll probably be shooting it in the next over-hyped Halo game (HALO IZ REVALOOSHINERRY!!!1111!!!!). Giving developers a good rating for bad games is one thing, giving them credit for somone elses work in order to spark your own personal sales boost makes you look like a bunch of profit driven liars who care more about selling out to large corporations (who by the way, are only as big as they are because you put them there by over-hyping their shitty games, resulting in their high sales figures), than actually producing anything with any journalistic qualirty.

If indeed you DO need to resort to tricks and lies to sell your magazine, that's because people like me don't buy it...because it's full of tricks and lies.

Note to self, spellcheck all angry/banal emails from now on.

Nah, just thought it would make a nice change from the usual "XBOX ROOLZ!!! YOU GIZE ROK!!11!" emails he probably gets.
