MAD MAX FURY ROAD

Post by POOPERSCOOPER »

I haven't done one of my famous reviews in awhile and I figure Mad Max would be the best one to come back to since it's post apoc and amazing. 15 minutes into the movie I knew it was great, they throw you into this weird universe and don't hand hold you trying to explain everything you just have to think about it by yourself. The action is mostly practical effects which is amazing and why I think so many people are enjoying this movie because there is something about see 20 trucks drive in the desert with real explosions happening all around compared to having a whole bunch of CGI bullshit.

The movie is basically one giant chase sequence which you probably already know if you have been following it at all. The story is efficient and keeps the pace of the movie going and the characters are all great and interesting. I whole heartily recommend this movie as we are unlikely to get anything near the same level anytime soon so please support it.

The whole movie is so tightly constructed and expertly done. If you love action movies, you need to see it. And it's a prime example of the "show, don't tell" mandate in filmmaking. The audience doesn't need paragraphs of exposition and backstory, or dialogue that spells out every character's motivation in block letters, in order to create a setting and premise that feels rich and vibrant. There is a lot going on in this movie, particularly regarding the characters' histories and the cultures/societies in the wasteland, that is never fully explained - we (the audience) are given hints and scraps and are made to do the math for ourselves. And that's in between all the action, which is on another level. The relative lack of CGI makes all the difference. There's a legitimate sense of thrilling danger in all the stuntwork and explosions, and everything is filmed with an old-school, wide-angle clarity - no close-up shaky-cam or dim lighting to mask shitty choreography or stunt work.

The only part I'd say when the movie starts losing momentum is when they literally get stuck in the mud. Or sand I guess. That said, definitely the best action movie I've seen in years. Stunt-work was amazing, and the practical effects were top notch. Only gripe is that clear 3D effect where the steering wheel and some other shit come flying at the camera when everything comes crashing down near the end. I feel like that's just knit-picky though. The movie cuts to the quick and, like a porno, just starts and throws you into it. No bullshit exposition or anything to sit through. Really like that.

10/10, would watch again.

Oh this movie is no doubt the best action one I have seen for a long time. I'd give it a solid 9 out of 10. Amazing film!

Huh. He's one of the few male ASMR people I like and didn't know he was Australian.

Mad max is on sale on PS store under Mid season sale. Should I get it? Is it worthwhile?

Solid game, but gets a bit repetitive like any open world game.
