If I can get newsposter powers, hopefully not. It looks like the bots have at least been beaten back for now.

Do you think I can spark a revival by emailing everyone in the member list a goatse?

You most certainly can salute

That'd lure most ppl back.

It'd be the ultimate calling card to some epic DAC event, and the event would be self-generating if it drew a lot of dackers. icon_chew

According to marketers, we are really into antique dildo collections.

Perhaps send everyone a weed related message.

I've give Retlaw the permissions. I think it's pretty clear I don't have time to maintain the site anymore icon_sad

We missed the reporting on the hoax website and Wasteland 2's beta, but that means we're geared for other news in the future.

We've been having an ongoing conversation about DaC, the patriots, and the depressing state of things. Now, we all know that there will undoubtedly be the familiar, recurrent surge of activity around the time of Fallout 4 and, should it ever emerge, Project V13, but what we need (and continuously bellyache about) is a consistent visitor base; obviously, the status quo of Duck and Cover is repetitive and stagnant, and that's mirrored in its visitation.

If some good changes-- albeit big changes, numerous ones, or just simple but genuinely interesting ones-- are needed, I strongly believe that we should discuss possible modifications or additions to the site and/or user outreach. I can't speak for everyone, but I do quite cherish this community of interesting minds and humor, and I'm willing to push things toward a more engaged membership if I'm not alone in the sentiment.

While all ideas are welcomed, I might suggest some kind of Newsletter highlighting current threads, off-DaC (but relative or important) stories, showcased mods for New Vegas/FO3, polls, etc. It might be beneficial to add utility widgets to DaC to make browsing easier, but I can't think of any at the immediate moment.

Whatever the solution-- and I do want to hear your suggestions-- I'm willing to push once again to keep this place active.

We should start truckin' warez through Gopherspace.

More seriously:

Maybe put up a front end with feeds from Imgur, IO9, Gizmodo, Conelrad, Boing-Boing, Reddit, Darwin Awards, Project Gutenberg, Encyclopedia Astronautica, Space, Flickr, various file and image hosting sites, etc.
Check copyright of course, and include proper credits.
Don't forget some adverts.

Throw in a silly page with links and feeds from all over.
Plus ads.

"DACK" would be a top banner, with a little box containing samples of our hosted media, choice DAC/Fallout links, etc.
Clicking the banner takes people to our real front page.

I would keep any links to piracy/etc. off the site. Our forum should be the only "unwholesome" thing, except maybe a morbid interest page (semi-hidden) with links to/feeds from Ogrish, etc.

As for widgets- make a "best of" subset of the forums, with all of our idiocy sanitized for the general population.

A very time consuming endeavor.

We have no one to program that, that's how we're getting hit with spambots in the first place.

Something with utility that could be used as a viable browser home page wouldn't be a bad idea whatsoever. I have a few friends in web design and I could talk with them about some of these concepts, get an idea of what they can accomplish, and what they would quote me. We might narrow down what we should prioritize and come up with a general mental image of what it would look like.

Shit, has anyone heard from St. Toxic in a while? EDIT: Last month. Okay. I would definitely consult him on possible layouts/designs.

Easy to do as a home page.

Just a bunch of links, its the feeds and proper credit/bandwidth issues for doing it online that would take a little work.
