"Assimilate. Assimilate. Assimilate."

<strong>[ Community -> Article ]</strong> - News related to <a href="http://www.duckandcover.cx/archives.php ... y=135">Top Story: Duck and Cover's 10th Anniversary</a>

<p style="text-align: left;">And thus, <strong><em>Duckandcover.cx</em></strong> was born. Founding father <strong>Killzig</strong><strong> </strong>(not the original Dacker**, that honor befell <strong><a href="../../forums/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2">Soulfish</a></strong>) dixit, ten (!) years ago today, on the very first DaC** thread, hopelessly out-armstronging Neil Armstrong.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img title="Some occurrence of no real importance." src="http://www.rocketcityspacepioneers.com/ ... strong.jpg" alt="Some random insignificant event." width="513" height="389" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><span style="font-size: x-small;">Wish you'd thought of that, eh, twat?</span></em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The <a href="../../forums/viewtopic.php?t=3&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0">thread in question</a><em>, </em>a 422-page behemoth with posts spanning 6 years, started with a question:</p>
<blockquote>
<p style="text-align: left;"><em> Have you signed this yet?

<a href="http://www.petitiononline.com/fo2src/petition.html" target="_blank">http://www.petitiononline.com/fo2src/pe ... a></em></p>
</blockquote>
<p style="text-align: left;">-dub <strong>Killzig</strong>, inciting stone-age dackers to join the quest for free <strong><em>Fallout 2 </em></strong>source code. Well, <em>have</em> <em>you</em>? 10 years later, 2003 (!) people have, making it the most remarkable evidence of how online petitions <em>work</em>.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">So stick around, pallies, DaC** is 10 and we have cake*. And forever remember the immortal words of wisdom of our own Killzigathustra:</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong><span style="font-size: xx-large;">ASSIMILATE. ASSIMILATE. ASSIMILATE.</span></strong></span></p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><em><span style="font-size: x-small;">I'm moving to have this be our new logo.</span></em></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><em><span style="font-size: xx-small;">*no we don't </span></em></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>**Update:</strong> According to new info hot from the frontlines, <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">I am the actual twat</span> <em><strong>Duck and Cover</strong></em>'s <em>REAL</em> birthday is <strong>January 3, 1998</strong>, so he/she/it is actually 14 and a bit. Today's date merely marks the move to our current .CX address and the start of these here forums. Don't worry though, this still calls for celebration. Also, apologies to the 2 middle-aged chinese women-spambots who read the piece before the edit for any confusion.</p>

It's ten years since we broke away from Gamespy. Interplay bitched them out when Killzig revealed Black Isle's development of "Fallout Fantasy" which turned out to be Lionheart.

We're officially older than the mental age of the average fallout 3 fan. I'm proud.

Hard to believe it's been almost 4 years since Bethesda fucked us in the ass.

Fallout 4 will be made mostly of concentrated super AIDS. One teaspoon of super AIDS in your butt and you're dead within a year.

10 years ago DAC moved to duckandcover.net, don't remember when we switched to .cx (it was because someone forgot to pay the bills IIRC)

The founder of Duck and Cover was someone called Jay. I believe Kreegle ran/owned DAC when it moved from GameSpy to duckandcover.net?

SoulFish was just some server tech dude I think

That'd be cool to have on DaC permanently, even if some of it seems shaky. For instance, Koc told me 3rd of Jan, not 13th; or about Kreegle being the boss in 03 when when this forum went up the boss apparent was Killzig.

Edit- Also, who the hell is editing the page? I could have sworn that
Killzig had an incredibly stupid idea of giving admin powers to Megatron and Spazmo
was originally "a Kubric sort of idea" or something. Maybe I was high when I woke up, fuck knows. :drunk:

Gimpmask is right. We moved to .cx when the site went dark for like a summer and then Darkunderlord took over or something. We refer to the time as the Dark Summer.

JimmyJay86 didn't really do much during the summer we were out besides I think just get the forums up but not the whole site. He blamed it on not having the passwords required. Saint Proverbius came in and brought DU then Teatime to take over.

That wiki that gimpmask posted actually seems fairly accurate. I guess Ausir wrote it?

This is all cool how we have our 10th anniversary (even if it's not) around the same time that Wasteland 2 got funded.

Killzig was definitely an admin back then already and taking care of a lot of Dack stuff, but I'm pretty sure Kreegle owned the domain, paid for the hosting etc. It's been ages though so I could be wrong
Edit- Also, who the hell is editing the page?
I changed it to say Kubrick today, it seems someone changed it back already :(

I think when Teatime and I took over, we were still at thevats.net. Then it was decided by someone to get the .cx domain in memory of the goatse escapade. I think that was late 2003, maybe 2004?

I was around for the transition and made duckse in memoriam. It was a collage of all the pictures from the post your pictures thread made into a goatse.

The war of terror resulted in some bad shit though, like the fact we still don't have a techie :( Anyone want to volunteer for the job?
