[ Person -> Article ] - More info on Person: Brian Fargo | More info on Company: inXile Entertainment | More info on Game: Wasteland

First Schafer, then Obsidian and now it's Wasteland wizard (and current copyright holder) Brian Fargo with Kickstarter fever. He got on Twitter and made the following statement:
"Pondering bringing Wasteland back through this crowdfunding. It's a world I have longed to work with again."
Sounds like "testing the waters" on his part but his Twitter activity following the statement is quite encouraging:
"Very encouraging to see all the love for a new Wasteland. Crowdfunding might be the perfect way to make it a reality...."
"I'm quite enjoying bringing all my Wasteland documents back out again to read. Wasn't sure if it would ever see the light of day."
With the Bethsoft-ization of the Fallout franchise not to everyone's taste, this might be the best bit of news in quite a long while, since as we all know:
"(...) Wasteland was the precursor to @fallout. We made Fallout because we didn't have the Wasteland rights."
In addition...
"I want fans to know that a new Wasteland would be complete old school vibe and made with input from gamers. Made the gamers way."
F*** yeah. Eurogamer reports the campaign is to start next month, so stay tuned.

Then again, maybe not. Spotted @ Rock Paper Shotgun |

Heard about this earlier today and it interests me more than the Obsidian kick. Fargo has always struck me as a pretty cool dude and isn't the Wasteland remake what DaC wanted so bad not so long ago? |

Aside from the fact that his obsession with collecting art ruined Interplay. |

I never figured "Herve Caen" to be art of any sort. |

I still blame Herve Caen more than Fargo's experiment in trying to further the medium. |

I would donate like 10 dollars maybe for this but $15 might be too much. Guy hasn't really done anything meaningful with his new company and I never played the original wasteland. |

Heck, I'd give 15 bucks for a new top-down, turn-based, post-apoc rpg. It's not like we've been drowning in them lately. |

I've been chomping at the bit for a good turn-based tactical game like X-Com ever since Silent Storm.
The same thing with a good turn-based 4x space game. It may just be that I'm picky but the ones that have come out in the past decade all haven't been that good. I still play Moo2 a lot. |

Same here, only problem is my wallet no hablo credit cardo. Somehow i think anyone that tries it might find that to be a trend among the customer base for something like this. |

Intaresting, although I don't see much of a chance it getting done. Let's revisit in a couple of years. |

Kickstarter gets only 60 days and your money gets returned if project does not meet deadlines.
So dig deep into your pockets boys and girls and start funding. I personally am tired of Bethesda and Bioware shit dominating the industry.
Plus I'd kill to play a Fallouty-type Wasteland with isometric view and party based combat. |

HAHA you pull those calculations out of your ass? Shit's all funded in less than 2 days. Right good. |
