Defense of the Ancients. It was a mod for Warcraft 3 that got pretty popular. Then assholes felt obligated to make their own games, like League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth. The games themselves are for spastic children who aren't good enough for regular strategy games and the communities reflect the abhorrent gameplay the games themselves present.

I think they made it a standalone product. Kinda like Team Fortress or Counterstrike or some shit. I think it's technically it's own Genre now.
